Plans Plans and more Plans

Enthused about operation but I have to make some hard choices. All the ideas I have will force me into an era and locale. Choosing industries forces choices of rolling stock. Right now I am all over the place with rolling stock and locos. Everything from an S2 to an AC4400. Rolling stock ranges from wooden truss rod cars to fairly modern rolling stock (1970s). I am thinking for pure operation I can have one set of locos and rolling stock that is era and industry appropriate and when I want to have fun, I can and run whatever, just to please myself. Is that cheating?

Father's Day - What present do you want for your railroad?

So, what would you like to get for Fathers Day, and.....do you think that you will get it?

I'll start it off:  I want (and am getting) a Atlas Gold L&N HH660 locomotive.

current reviews of Static Grass Applicators?

So, I was just checking out my Scenic Express Father's day special email and noted that Noch, Heki and Grasstech were all on sale.

They also generally all talked about recent improvements to the products and they each have a slightly different design.

It made me wonder has there been a recent review of the current models of these products? Preferably on MRH, but I'd take anywhere.

Google, both generally and the site search suggest not. Lots of threads on making your own. Which is great, but I'm curious on the commercial products.

BNSF reporting mark adoption

Sorry if it seems silly, but for someone living outside USA I do not get to go out there and see the real thing.

Looking into photos I see lots of former BN equipment (including locomotives) using its BN reporting marks as late as '06, while all photos I found on former ATSF locomotives is at least "patched". Any reason why BNSF still uses BN reporting marks but not ATSF?

Request for Clinic

I'd appreciate watching a clinic demonstrating the creation of photo etched detail parts for diesels. Something that took us through the process of image creation, processing, scaling through the production of a finished piece.

It seems that with better tooling and 3d printing this may become a process that falls in the shadows but I believe still is relevant.

What would be the chance of someone being able to produce this?

Regards,

Dan

I hope I can receive some help as i've been knocking my head against the wall on this one. I thought this would be an easy spur install.

Has anyone encountered glue or ballast that seems to have a bit of electrical conductivity?

I have recently started ballasting my layout, and since I added the ballast, I have had a problem with current seeping between the rails. I have measured the resistance, and instead of getting an open circuit reading between the rails, I seem to get a very high resistance, but enough to have blown my Roco DCC command station.

I am using normal pva wood glue, thinned down 50/50 with water and ballast products that is available in South Africa.

Would like to hear if anyone else has experienced similar problems and what can be done to fix it.
