Open house today at the Central Florida Railroad Modelers
We had an open house today at our clubhouse in Orlando, Florida from 10am to 5pm which was a great success with many visitors. Check out our website at: www.cfrrm.org . I worked the morning shift greeting and talking with visitors and had a ball. Our next open house is October 1st. Here's what the layout looks like with over 27 scale miles of track in HO:
Can you tell the difference?
Two CN Point St. Charles cabooses. One is brass and the other plastic. Can you tell them apart?

Can I Trust Him?
So I talked to Ken Patterson at the convention today (great guy by the way) and he is graciously doing a decoder install on it for me. I am not sure if I should be excited or nervous (I know he won't mess up) as when saying thanks and handing off the neigne he said tomorrow I am going to make you smile. So hopefully he doesn't overdue it.
The engine I got was a Athearn special edition in their scheme from a few years back looked great and was only $40.
RMC 80th Anniversary Boxcar
To All: I painted, lettered and applied the RMC 75th logo to this 40 foot Accurail outside braced boxcar. The car has full under body detail, #58 Kadee couplers, air hoses and coupler cut bars. The finished out the car with Bragdon Weathering powders followed by a flat sealer coat. The RMC 75th logo was lifted from magazine. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. July 8th Layout Progress Update
Progress has not progressed at break-neck speed, but it definitely hasn't been spinning its wheels either. In the first photo you can see the old nightstand that I have re-purposed as benchwork for the layout. The second photo a the mockup of a factory flat that will go against the backdrop between the city and rural areas. The backdrop itself will be a 12"x24" sheet of 0.060" styrene.
Clear coat
I just got a brass loco that I would consider mint and the clearcoat is flawless. Why must I remove it before painting? What would be the minimum cleaning I should do? If I consider it the primer will it matter what brand paint I spray? Blayne
"The Dakotan" and Other Pike-Sized Trains
After purchasing a 1954 Great Northern Timetable, I remembered the great MR series of articles regarding pike-sized trains.
http://peskar.org/model_trains/model_railroader/pike%20size%20trains%20%...
I am considering modeling "The Dakotan" since it was the only train serving Kandiyohi, MN in the 1950's. How many of you model short passenger trains (without compression) on your layout and what do you do for operations?

My NMRA Train Show Report
Here it is I will add links to google folders and videos from each day. Day 1 is the Opsig and tommorow (day 2) will be the train show.

How to Model Oil Slicks
This one stumped me for a long time but I finally sussed out a method I was mostly happy with:
Let me know what methods you use.

Wilmington July 2016
The majority of the Wilmington trackage is in. Have to finish the coal dealer and the coal dump at the shipyard. Haven't finalized the coaling facilities at the service tracks, the turntable and approaches are stand in's until the real ones can be built.
