Electrical Connectors

The other day I went searching for Cinch-Jones and Anderson Powerpole connectors. Google being the all seer of everything noticed and sent me an ad for another product I've never seen. Looks like they could do a similar job to a suitcase connector but are very inexpensive. Any thoughts?

SMA25 Tinkering with DCC++ Base Stations: JMRI To Track Connections, Accessories & Fun

Take the 2 boards pictured below, download the efforts of Gregg E. Berman, the creator of DCC++:  https://sites.google.com/site/dccppsite/, add 2 wire jumpers and you have a DCC base station that can be controlled with multiple throttles directly from your PC. It will also act as a $9 JMRI to DCC hardware interface—really!

Building 3 final touches

Added some rain covers over the loading doors and then a little weathering....okay a LOT of weathering. Maybe a bit too much but I wanted the building to look like it had been there for many years. Through many years of rain, snow, hail, sunshine and winds. May have to come back and remove some of the powder.

Proto 2000 2-8-8-2 disassembly

Does anyone have a good resource or documentation on disassembling a Proto 2000 2-8-8-2, or an exploded view drawing would be helpful too.

Thanks!

Travis Drive for the Athearn "Hustler"

Don't know if anyone out there still has one of these. The "Hustler" came out around 1959. It was just about useless because it ran at the speed of sound at almost any throttle setting...

Installing DCC in my brass engine

I have been working on installing a Tsunami decoder in my West Side Lumber Co 3 truck Shay. The Shay is a brass PBL Shay in Sn3 (S scale 3 foot narrow gauge).

I was able to slip the decoder in the boiler and install a speaker in the tender. The lights are 0402 SMD LEDs in the headlight and backup light.

I shot a video with my iPhone, I still need to tune the sounds with JMRI, I would like to choose a better whistle and tune the chuffs.  The Shay is running smooth and I am able to get it to crawl nice and slow.

Attached is a video in YouTube.

Quinnimont WV Water Tower

So I am modeling Quinnimont West Virginia.  In the late summer of 1943.  Part of that is the somewhat unique water tower.  It was tall with steel legs and was a so called "typical" C&O water tower.  As such I have the standard drawings for it.

However the C&O never built anything the way the drawings showed they where more of a suggestion the actual plans so everything is a bit different from one to the next.

How to Model Road Markings

This week I'm looking at how to model road markings.  Really simple but they bring the road to life:

Removable end sections for a shelf layout?

Hey all.  I've been away from the hobby for a few years, slowly been getting back into things, and planning a small shelf layout to give myself something to work on.
