Advice on wiring sizes

Hi Everyone. I am rebuilding my railroad (for the nth time!). Normally, I make a power bus using copper tape but this time I thought that I would make it with wire. So, I need a bit of advice.

The railroad is to be in an L shape (see diagram of the room) roughly 8' by 8' and 2' wide.

So what size wire do I get as droppers and what sized wires for the bus?

What do you call the snap connectors that can connect the droppers to the bus without tools?

Thanks in advance for your help

The Little Rock Line in N scale.

Greetings all.  Been lurking for a few years, decided it was time to join in.

I started my layout design years ago but didn't get around to building until 2008.  It's a Proto-Freelanced design based on Rock Island's section of line from Little Rock, AR south to Alexandria, LA. Subdivision 38 & 39 of their Southern Division.  In my history books The Rock avoided the final shutdown and continues to operate.  The current date is Spring-Summer of 1983.  It was designed for Ops and as of the present is fully operational.

Weathering: First Projects

Decided to try weathering again, bought videos, subscribed to TMTV and now I decided to give it a try and share the progress.

Steps Completed:

  • sprayed dull coat on model
  • applied diluted vallejo wash
  • applied AIM weathering powders
  • (Not Shown) applied dull coat and weathering powders to trucks

NCE Switch-Kats vs. Digitrax DS64s for Kato turnout control?

I was initially planning to get Digitrax' four-output DS64s to maximize the number of turnouts I can control on my N-scale layout, but I keep reading of issues with DOA units, position-memory, or the fourth output not working. Some claim they work flawlessly while others report a number of oddball issues with them.

You're on Camera - Security Camera Build

Hi MRH,

I wanted to share a quick how-to for making security cameras. These are modeled after the older style cameras commonly seen.

Parts:

0.040 styrene for the base

a staple for the arm

a piece of 0.060 round rod styrene for the camera body (spare parts, plastic sprue, or tubes work too!)

a piece of paper for the camera hood

clear lens for the camera glass( I had some small lens left over from a switch stand kit)

Rail Fanning on the Pokey

After installing some new LokSound decoders in my engines I decided it was high time to play! I set up three trains on the layout and just let 'em run around and around the mainline loop. Made me feel like a kid again, although my wife suggests I never stopped being one! (Ouch!)

Just for fun I decided to video some of the proceedings. It's nothing spectacular, but I hope it will in some small way share the fun I was having with the rest of you.

DCC++ Rpi HAT

I am a huge proponent of the DCC++ system. Which is quickly, a DCC base station made from an Arduino UNO and a motor shield. It's a cheap and easy way to get into DCC.

A DCC++ group popped up on Facebook a week or so ago and a discussion started around boosters etc...

Montana prototype/freelance - N Scale

Hi all

Well with some great feedback I'm starting my new layout, bench work has begun and I am taking a module approach to this build, not the kind that can be changed around like FreeMo but just so I can take a section and build it on the bench, you could say TOMA inspired but I started planning this long before I saw that.
