Excellent Video on Creating Grand Canyon-type Buttes and Mesas
Here's a very detailed video on how to use a hot wire to carve foam into buttes and mesas. Normally, this gentleman uses foam and cement to create habitats for lizards and reptiles (hence the title of his YouTube channel "Lizard Landscapes") but he decided to just create a model canyon for the heck of it. Although his use of color is not to my taste, I think he really nails the forms. There's quite a bit of useful information if you are trying to create southwestern scenery.
Making turnout pads with cork
I was looking at cork roadbed for my layout and I have seen numerous videos on how to use the 3ft sections to make your turnout pads using cork. When looking online I noticed that they make the cork already premade for different types of turnouts and just wondering if most make there own or use the commercially made ones.
I know there probably would be a debate on whether to use one or the other, but curious how others are doing that.
need some layout tips for a noob
ok so my original layout was going to be a standard oval with some track on the inside to create a small factory with a small rail yard. the left half of the inside of the layout would be a small town the right half would be factory/industrial. below is a pic of how the layout looks now.

Posting videos
Hello,
Could someone point me in the direction to find the post on how to upload and post a video to the forum site?
Thanks.
Can anybody help me please
I'm trying to find a way back issue of Model Railroader.I had a copy, but it seems to have been eaten by the Black hole (or the carpet monster) that lives in my room It contains an article and a diagram, with (I think) a cutting list, for a modellers working and tool tray - The tool tray has individual vertical compartments and holes to hold files, modelling knives, pliers, screwdrivers etc. I know for a fact that it ISN't in March 1962 which I have just bought at great expense from USA ( I'm in UK).

A switchman for a caboose
There was a bit time so I started a small project for an future addition on a caboose which will be prepared for use with an SP loco model. This caboose should receive a switch man with an illuminated lantern who should receive his place on the platform steps of this caboose.
Coupler conversion of Kato HO Bi-Level cars
Can anyone tell me how to convert the stock Kato HO Bi-Level passenger car couplers to Kadees? I bought the recommended Kadee coupler conversion kit #451 and put it together, but I'm not sure how to install it as a replacement for the Kato swivel coupler. It most likely needs shims, but the bigger problem is that it swivels side to side and I don't see how to correct that. I've attached a couple pictures but am not a great photographer.
New shelf layout benchwork
First ever blog entry! Thought I'd share since its using steel stud and track, a method that occasionally comes up but I haven't seen it much used for a shelf layout. Generally the details of construction are pretty thin in discussions too.
Just to set the stage. This will be my second layout since getting back into the hobby as an adult. The first was last year; a typical 4x8' double track roundy round with a small yard and a couple industry spurs.
Stewart (Kato) F7 questions
Hi all,
I am considering getting my first F7 units (I know its strange that i don't have any yet ). Based on what i have read on their running qualities and long term reliability, i am leaning towards getting Stewart units, either Kato built or later. I would very much appreciate your input on some specific questions i got based on the reading i have done so far.
