What sound decoder ??

I have many HO locomotives that have sound,  I am very pleased with Loksound and Soundtrax tsunami but I have many older locos that i do not wish to spend  90-100.00 dollars for sound.  What other sound decoders do you like and why ??

I want to build a Large Cement Plant. Looking for suggestions.

I model N scale. I have the Corner stone HO Valley Cement Kit. I plan on converting it into an N scale plant by changing the doors and windows.Replacing ladders, stairs, But keeping the building size to reflect the size plant down in Southern California. I have a 4 foot square area to place the plant. But may only us two foot square area to build it. I also have the silos and support building i may need for this projects. My other hope is to switch in and out 30 to 60 two bay cement cars, Tool parts cars, Coal, aggregate, Sand, to be taken it to support the plant.

Need advice on attaching a backdrop

I’d like input if anyone has glued or wallpapered up a backdrop. I was planning to paint my backdrop, but I’ve recently been working on a book design with a very talented local illustrator who has graciously offered to create my backdrop.

Beat-up Blue-Box Rail Box Blues...

LED Strip Lighting Brightness and Power Calculator

For those interested in lighting layouts with LED strip lights (LED tape lighting), I am attaching an Excel spreadsheet that implements a basic calculator for total light output, current draw and power consumption. You can enter values of specifications for LED strip lights that you are thinking of buying, for a layout section of a particular size, then automatically calculate values that will tell you if the product will produce enough light and what power it requires.

The Hudson Bay Railway operates on the Esquimalt and Nanaimo

While attending Supertrain in Calgary Alberta this past weekend (http://supertrain.ca) I had opportunity to visit and operate on Dave Bedard's Canadian Pacific Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway.  The E&N operates on Vancouver Island between Victoria and Courtney, with a branchline to Port Alberni.  Dave's layout features scratchbuilt depots, kitbashed freight cars and locomotives to represent prototype equipment and developing scenery, all on two decks. It was a great layout to run on.
