Waukegan, Rockford & Elgin Boxcar
To All: The Waukegan, Rockford & Elgin RR is the Proto?Freelance line of Patrick Martin of the Illini Chapter Professional Car Society. This interurban railroad went out of business in 1925, but Pat models the line as though it survived. He sent me these decals to letter a car for myself. Photo by Elvin Howland. Repairing gears on truck axles
I'm fixing an O Scale (2-rails) GP9 for a friend. It's a Red Caboose GP9, DC only. It stopped working recently out of the blue. After cleaning wheel contacts and making sure the motor worked well, opening it revealed the core of the issue:

Lumber Prices Going Up?
Just a heads up, Trump has put a 20% import tax on lumber coming in from Canada. If you are planing on buying lumber for whatever reason get it soon. It won't take long for it to start going up.

Weather it with a Grain of Salt! Salt weathering on rolling stock.
Hi all,
Following interest on a previous topic of mine, where I presented an EMD E8m locomotive which had some of its weathering done using the salt weathering process / technique I prepared a "small" post presenting how I am employing this technique.
Dam, that’s a solution
One problem with the open grid bench work that most of us use, it’s difficult to do any scenery below track level. You can add hills/mountains but doing a canyon requires the track to be built on risers. However, that requires some planning ahead. What if you want to add a feature below the track level after you all already up and running with track work built on the grid.
