Phantom Engineer
I was taking some photos to compare my recent n-scale Atlas Master RS-3 with my first (50 y/o?) RSC-2 diesel. It was made in Yugoslavia for Atlas and its box is no longer around.
Then I noticed. There seems to be someone in the cab of the RSD!
Spooky!
Rock Island U-25-B 250
I just finished weathering my Bowser(Stewart) Rock Island U-25-B. Found it on E-bay came painted yellow for Oregon, CA & Eastern. I simply painted it and used High Ball graphics set 218. Wow. What a headache this project turned out to be! I will go into detail sometime in a future article.

Train carry case ideas?
I hope "tools tips and tricks" is the right category for this, but...
When taking your trains places, how do you carry them? Right now, I pack my engines back in their boxes if I have to take it somewhere (like the hobby shop) but, I only do steam, and most of my steam, being Spectrums, means taking the tender off, and my Connie has already suffered two busted harness wires.
What are these?
I posted my guesses below.
A close up of the nails reveal that they have numbers (stamped or cast?).

Happy Early Birthday to Me - Thank You Michael Rose
I was joking when I told Michael on his thread on this site that I'd store his new HO German doodlebug at my home so he wouldn't be tempted to switch back from N scale to German HO scale. So what happens when the Mrs. and I show up for a visit yesterday? He gives me the doodlebug as a birthday present! It is a beautiful unit and it looks great on my tourist doodlebug line on my layout. And besides this wonderful present we were treated to delicious German food and coffiee! We had a wonderful time - thank you!
details?
The old saying:"The devil is in the details" is certainly true in model railroading Operations. I see many beautifully executed layouts with magnificent scenery, then the illusion is destroyed by: lack of engine crew in the lead unit, no diaphragms on carbody units and passenger cars, too quick movements of the camera, blurred or out of focus segments, the list goes on. Folks go to extraordinary lengths to build really elaborate operating sequences, why not take a little more time and effort to complete the effect?
Random Thoughts on Layout Design
Seeking feedback on an idea that has been floating in my head for a while.
Many of our layouts include hidden track that takes considerable time (and expense) to navigate, whether to or from staging, scenes, or helix, and my patience runs thin. The engine speeds up and sounds like NASCAR when approaching the porthole to the visible portion of the layout.

LED strip power supply cooling fan
Hi all,
I recently installed and wired a 12 VDC, 30A (sold by Micro-Mark and eBay) power supply to power two LED lighting strips on my layout. Each LED strip consists of a 5m long, 300 unit, type 2835 rated at 24W. Each strip is connected to the power supply through a PWM dimmer.
