Connecting switching power supplies at ground?

Hello,

Can I tie the grounds of switching power supplies together without causing problems?  I'm sure the loads (positive side) on each supply are not particularly well balanced at the moment.

I'm at the point of segregating LED lighting strips into areas.  I have three and may expand to four 12 volt 33 amp switching power supplies.  Wiring the control panel would become a lot easier if I could tie all the 12 volt grounds together.  I put a VOM between the grounds of two and got 40 volts and decided to ask questions.

Double header on the Cumbres and Toltec... Advice?

This might be a little off topic, let me know if does not belong here.

Hi everyone. Not to make others jealous but I am going to the Cumbres & Toltec for the first time this Memorial Day weekend. They have a double header going on this weekend and it will be my first train ride in nearly five years, the last being across Norway. I am taking my wife and daughter of 10 months on the out and back from Chama.

What glue to use on Revell-style modeling kits?

I just bought these Minicraft plastic model kits (which I assume are styrene kits). I'm happy to say the detail is quite good. But since I haven't built a model since I was a kid, I'm not sure what type of glue people use these days. I have:

• Plastruct Plastic Weld.
• Canopy glue.
• CA glue.

I see some new glues at MTS' site including:

Walthers/Cornerstone Superior Paper Mill Kitbash

I like the look of this building but the footprint is to large for my shelf layout.  Has anyone kit bashed this building into a long background building?  If so, I would like to see a couple of pics.

Thanks.

Ops Session Hosting - Pros & Cons

The latest post over at my Valley Local site raises what might be a controversial topic, but I wanted to go there since I'm really interested in hearing and learning from the experiences of others that have been hosting operating sessions for a while.

To what extent do you open your layout for operations? Friends only? Friends of friends? The Whosoever?

Wood Cabooses

I was asked by someone when the last wood cabooses were used in North America and my guess was the late 1960s or early 1970s. I really had no answer and now I’m curious. When were the last ones in service?

Order of wiring vs laying down roadbed

My layout has been hand tacked down for a wiring test - 2 CAB/2 Mainline, 5 Blocks and X crossover.  Its DC based on things I inherited from my Dad.  Now that I know things run as designed, I am about to lay down Woodland Scenics foam roadbed.  Should I complete that before re-wiring, or should I complete the final wiring before (as during) the laying down of roadbed?

Excel Inventory Spreadsheet from 12/2012 MRH

Does anyone know what happened to the website www.mrdccu.com? It had a good example of an inventory spreadsheet. It seems to have disappeared. Or does anyone out there have a copy of that spreadsheet (actually an Excel Workbook) they could send me .

Thanks

Inspection rail car

Has anyone built one of these yet? If so, what did you use for the base model?
