Control Panel for my HOn3 PC&N Ry

Today I put the finishing touches on my latest control panel for my PC&N Ry. I reporposed an old document frame and created the track schematic using Power Point. Once I had the schematic printed I took it to my local Office Depot and had it laminated with .010" thick plastic to protect it.

Next I used the frames cardboard insert as a pattern to cut out a piece of 1/8 inch Masonite and glued my laminated schematic to it. I then glued some scrap pine strips to hold the panel into the document frame permanently.

Classification Yard right next to Staging?

Does one put a classification yard right next to staging, and why would you do that?

It's really bugging me as I can't find much information about it. Yes, I see layout plans where people do this but what is the reasoning behind it...from operational point of view.

Lift Bridge/Gate at the LA & Pasadena RR

Following my yesterday's update on the layout progress here are some photos of the lift-bridge/gate. I was originally considering a swing-gate but for my particular application a lift-bridge/gate proved more easy/reliable as a solution.

I was concerned initially with how trains would track on this and potential alignment issues. A lot of effort has been put into making the benchwork adjacent to the gate as solid as possible (one end is a peninsula...).

In the end it operates as it should with zero problems so far.

Thanks in advance for stopping by!

Sci-Fi Locomotive Kitbash

Sci-Fi model train

I've completed my first locomotive kitbash of a science fiction fantasy engine meant to be used on my Mines of Xenon layout in HO scale. The base unit started out with an E60 shell and was chopped down to fit on an Atlas SD45 chassis. Bits and pieces were added to protect the humans from the mining robots rising up in revolution.

PSC 3 Truck Brass Shay - Drive help and Pianting Stainless Boiler?

Some time ago i picked up a Precision Scale Ho 3 truck Shay for a very very good price. At the time i supected it wasn't running. After significant testing I had narrowed down some issues to a bind in the last spur gear and also dry gears. After a clean and lube it appears to have improved.

DCC conversion of an old Athearn locomotive.

PA2sI have these mid 1980's locomotive that run great. I would like to add DCC control and sound to them. One of them is a dummy unit. I am looking to you all to give me advice as to what decoders will work best for me. Sound is very important for me.

Winterrail 2018

I'm attending Winterrail for the first time this year  I had occasionally thought about going when it was in Stockton, California, but after it moved to Corvallis, OR I had no choice - to miss a nationally known event when it was 30 or so miles away was not an option  Still  I managed to until this year

Attendance: 403

Starting Over

Old Layout is Gone

I have finished dismantling the old layout (benchwork made of studs and decking screws with 1/2" ply top). Track was laid but never wired up when I decided to abandon and go TOMA.

Decaling Windows

Is it best to put decals on the inside or outside of plastic "glass" on structures? Is there anything special to do it either way? Thanks
