SMA27 DCC Controlled Animated Passenger Coach

Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! This time we’ll focus on a mobile animation that is easy to build incorporating a Digitrax TF4 function decoder, an Arduino Pro Mini, and a small DC gear motor. This is a relatively straightforward animation, which draws much interest.

Renumber a New Rivarossi Big Boy

A friend of mine has a new HO Rivarossi Big Boy with cab number 4018.  He wants to change the cab, tender rear and smokebox top numbers to 4014.  He has new Microscale decals but is unsure how best to remove the existing numbers.  Can anyone share what has worked for them in cases like this?

Thanks,

Scratchbuilt rotary dumper in HO (TMI and long)

Once upon a time, long ago and far away, an impulse buy of a E&C Bethgon started me on a slightly unintentional journey to model a coal train.  I model the Burlington Northern in 1995 so it made sense although there wasn't a lot of coal in the area I model, the PNW.  There were PGEX, "the Rose Trains" to PGE's facilty at Boardman, OR.  BN's experimental Trough Train delivered coal to the steam plant at Centralia, WA and various trains unloaded at Robert's Bank, BC, for export.

Piedmont Blues - O scale switching layout.

Howdy y'all!

I wanted to share with you a layout that myself and my friend Ford are building for the UK exhibition circuit. It's modular due to needing to be transportable, so technically I guess this could be considered a TOMA thread.

We started with three modules, 3 feet by 2 feet, and are hopefully going to extend it with further modules as time goes on.

Here's some photographs from the first show we took the layout to - it's still a work in progress, but is fully functional as a layout, so we've been having fun running trains. :)

Opinions on F unit cut levers & airhorns

Hi all,

I am looking at some detail parts for some F units i need to work on (HO scale). Since i have not seen the parts in person and i only got access to what i see from webshops/listings, i would very much appreciate your feedback and suggestions on casting quality / thickness etc... if you have worked with them or saw them in person.

Micro Engineering flex track, an Ah Ha.

Here’s something I saw before I laid the track for my railroad.  It was in the Dream, Plan, Build series that Model Railroader put out.  It showed up on YouTube today so I thought I’d pass it along.  That way when I come to visit your layout it will look as good as it runs!?!???

Maybe someone who can remember will make a better link!

If you haven’t used ME flex track yet, watch this first!!!

Weathering - with or without photos? Pros/Cons?

When you weather, do you use photos or do you not use photos?

Why or why not? Pros/Cons of each approach?

1997 Easy DCC Command station

Does anyone know if an Easy Dcc command station from 1997 will work with todays JMRI Decoder Pro for motion only decoders. Specificically will it write and read back the decoder.

A Slight Rant on the quality of Menards Railroad Signs

So I recently got one of the menards lasercut railroad signs sadly I have to say I am not impressed, While at first look it was nice one thing that really is a deal breaker for me is the white part of the sign was tape, yup masking tape....

Why would they use that I was wondering if anyone else got one of these and if it is only the C&NW one that uses tape for the white.

Need Help with well car missing/Broken parts

If anyone has an exploded-view parts diagram of these well cars, I'd appreciate it if they could scan it and send me a copy. Not sure if they Athern or Atlas. Picked up three sets at a recent train show and didn't notice they have a few missing or broken parts such as the ladders. Not very bright of me, but I did get them at rellay good prices.

single well carAyone having a parts list can email them  to me privately.
