Cicada Quartet

Four Iowa Scaled Engineering  cicada sound modules are used on this train show module.  It's set up to be motion activated , and two of the toy cicadas used on rooftops have illuminated eyes.  This display will be at an August  fair in Essex Junction, VT.  It's a bit of humor for the casual observer.

Railgon weathering

I mustered up the courage to do some weathering on my Arrowhead Models Railgons.  These were the most expensive freight cars on my roster so a bit twitchy about doing it.  I think they turned out fairly well.  More here:

Help me select paint BN loco

I have my O scale SW-9 torn apart and stripped. I want to repaint it to look like the BN 149. I’m a complete novice at painting locomotives, so any tips are helpful.

I’d like to see other people BN paint jobs and the paint colors they used. Also, what color primer did you use. There are so many paint brands and it’s hard to figure out what it looks like until it’s on a surface.

IAIS's 4th Sub - Trackwork begins

Exactly 8 months after moving to our new home, I was finally able to start trackwork on the IAIS's 4th Sub, so I thought it might be time for a new post devoted to that topic. My plan is to cover each prototype scene in a bit more detail as I go for comparison to the corresponding portion of the layout.  Each layout scene is a track-for-track representation of the prototype, so the overall design was relatively easy as layouts go.

As a guide to help orient things as we go, here's the layout plan again:

My freelance NS and CSX railroad.

Welcome to the Schmidt Division of CSX and the Berry Division of NS in HO Scale.

The name of Schmidt for the CSX division is named after my late grandfather who worked for the railroad for 50 years. The name of Berry for the NS division is named after a close friend of mine who honestly got me back into train both model and prototypes.

Athearn/Roundhouse disappointment

I recently bought 2 Athearn/Roundhouse Canadian National 40' stock car kits: #2924 & 2925.

For the price I paid, I was somewhat disappointed. Rather than prototypically-faithful, they turned out to be updated tooling for the old Athearn Blue Box kits minus the horn-hook couplers. They had cleaned up the underfloor casting but did not correct the placement of the brake cylinder and air reservoir. And the cars still needed extra weight to meet the NMRA RP, and replacement of the plastic wheelsets.

Build a T-Trak Module! Easy N Scale Model Train Module

Building a model railroad module! Specifically a T-Trak Module. T-Trak is a modular standard based around kato unitrack. It's a simple module to build too!

Sound Installation into Vandy Tender, piggy-back decoder, dual speakers

I'm still very interested i going forward with this project (but need to my new layout running first). The subject came up in my mind recently when I acquired another VC-16 tender.
