Bachmann Spectrum Fairbanks Morse H-16-44 Decoder Conversion

I bought this Bachmann Spectrum model of a Fairbanks Morse H-16-44 used on EBay a couple of months ago and it is straight DC.  There is not a lot out there on converting this model other than one post on here that has a few pictures, but not too much detail for someone attempting this without a lot of experience.  I’ll take lots of photos as a I go and do a detailed write up.

A few more to figure out

The -8 is just parts, don’t know what real engine name, the smaller one is complete.

Estuary wet test

I pretty much got the colour I wanted for the tide out estuary.

I misted it with water to give me an idea of what it will look like when I air brush a gloss over it. I'm thinking gloss over the lower areas and a semi gloss on the higher spots.

I haven't figured out what medium will give me this yet.

Admiral Farragut would be proud . . .

A few weeks back, July 15 to be exact, I held my first operating session since January 23, 2020. Given how long it had been since I've had others operating on the Valley Line, it was intended to be a "shake down" session to see how the railroad has fared over such a long period of inactivity. As such, I should have checked my expectations at the top of the basement stairs. If I had, I probably would have had more fun.

A question, or inquiry about radio antennas

I am looking to purchase a new external antenna for my scanner, for when I am out railfanning.  Currently I use a window clip type antenna mount with a BNC connector for a Motorola rubber duckie antenna cut for the 160/162mkz frequencies.   My issue is, the wire to my scanner is an unshielded type which has issues with the electronics in my SUV.  So,  I am looking at either the Railcom antenna, or the Traintenna model, which looks identical to the Railcom model, but uses an RG type cable.    Does anybody use either type, and which do you l

Shay Engines, Copper Belt Railroad at Bingham.

Did you know the Copper Belt Railroad had a roster of Shay steam engines at Bingham canyon? First used for the underground mines around Bingham, then helped with the started up of Utah Copper and Boston Consolidate Copper.

Kemtron locomotives

Hi everyone, I’m new here. I just bought these 2 locomotives from a thrift store for 35.00 out the door. I know they are kemtron, does anyone have any idea what the 2-8-2 is in make and model of the real thing? These are painted brass and need some work. I had a Lionel 027 as a kid and loved trains ever since.I am working on a Christmas tree train for my girlfriend.

Memory aids.

I am in the process of producing another batch of covered hoppers.  Today I have a number of Bill Berlinger’s fine decals all cut out and a picture of one of the prototype cars lined out so that I can place the decals.  Humph…….  How the heck did I do the decals last time????

Lehigh Valley RS3 Hammer Head Conversion Stewart Chassis or chassis swap?

All,

I'm working on gathering parts for an HO Lehigh Valley RS3 Hammer Head conversion. I have sourced the DA conversion kit for the Stewart Phase 1 Shell.

I'm wondering what the opinions are regarding the Stewart RS3 chassis vs trying to fit the modified shell to an Atlas or other manufacturer's chassis?

Thanks,

Lou Nigro
