Opinions on operations sequence
As I develop my operations plan, a recent discussion brought some new considerations to light. I have two yards. one main and one secondary halfway across the layout. Recently a co-operator told me he disliked running trains out from the main yard to a town or district, switching, and returning to the same yard. He felt it more interesting to switch along the way ending up in another yard.
Sending an emergency stop in JMRI / DCC++ to one loco
I hope this is a good place to post this. I just aquired an Athearn loco with a Tsunami sound decoder. I've changed the settings so that I can turn the engine sound on by giving it a little power then backing it off. What I'm trying to do unsuccessfully is to generate the engine stop sound. Here is what the Tsunami Manual has to say: "To shut the engine sound off, press your cab’s emergency stop button once." I've been searching all over the internet and that does seem to work for some people using some commercial hardware but I have

What is the biggest difference between steel wheels and synthetic (nylon, plastic, resin) wheels? What is best and for what application?

PHOTO BACKDROPS
Does anyone have recommendations ( experience )-for photo backdrops libraries and printing as well as photoshop work. Some I have seen appear bland as well as distorted It appears one axis is held and the other changed. I am not sure why they look so faded. Anyone have any of experience and suggestions

ON30 Prototypes?
I'm curious what the prototypes are for some of Bachmann's On30 equipment (assuming there were actual prototypes).
Specifically, I'm interested in the the center cupola caboose, the tank car, and the 18' cars.
Do any of them have prototypes?
If so, what are they?

Dear all,
I am hoping that everyone is having a great summer. I am looking into adding a Mogul or a 4-6-0 next to the couple of Porters that i will have in my On30 small layout (1870s - 1880s, old-West style freelanced, 18" curves if i use a Mogul, ~20" if a 4-6-0 is chosen).
The idea is to have a Porter haul a mine (ore) run train from a town area (steamboat landing) up to the mines' area and back down to the stamping mill placed a bit beyond (near) the town (or even replace the mill with an ore dock for steamboat transfer of the ore).
