Derelict Trackage and the Infamous Mud Pit
Recently on WPF I was asked how I made the mud pit on my derelict track, so I'll use this thread to show what I did.

Looking for HO Storage Shed
https://www.leonardusa.com/barns-and-barn-style-sheds#MiniBarn
Has anyone seen one of these style of sheds in HO scale? I found one but it was square and I was looking for longer than wider. Thought for sure it would be an easier laser project. Thanks.

N&W Pocahontas District: Scenery Phase III
My last blog about the scenery on my layout grew to over 20 pages, so I figured it was time to start another post. As before, this will continue the coverage of my ongoing scenery work.
Thanks for following along!
Middle School Model Railroad: Scale Speed
Yesterday I asked students to first estimate, then calculate, the speed in miles per hour that this train was traveling with respect to the HO scale figure walking along the tracks (this "scene" runs along the whiteboard on the north wall of the classroom):

question about tunnels
ok so i have an n scale layout that uses the 28 piece bridge pier set. what i want to do is make a tunnel preff out of elmers foam board since i can get it cheap.not sure if i can make a curved tunnel so a straight tunnel would be ok.
my question i guess is where do i start? i wanna do a tunnel to hide some of the track and to give the layout some oomph some wow, im feeling kinda lost never done anything like this before the track is on a 2x4 sheet of MDF
need some guidance
Convert Rotary Endoder turnouts to Touch Toggle
I have been helping a friend update a layout. It started out with turnouts being controlled with those old display motors and the occasional Rix turnout mechanism but we have been updating them to Tortoise motors as they have been failing.
He is also endearingly fond of new gadgets. The latest one is Berrett Hill Touch Toggles. He found them before I had heard of them but they are cool.
Which brings us to the crux of the matter: the main yard is run by a rotary encoder and we want to convert that to the touch toggles. Touch the track, the ladder lines for your movement, auto-magical.

Suggested pixels/inch for custom decals?
Does anyone have a recommended pixels per inch count for doing custom decals? I'm currently set at 2500 px/inch. Haven't printed yet, and want to know if I'm way over-shooting it with that number or not.
For further reference, current plan is for HO scale decals. I'd take any other suggestions that come to mind as well. Not necessarily planning to print them myself.

Improving Athearn 40' Boxcar Doors
Wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks to improve the bottom clasps on Athearn blue box 40' boxcar doors. They are quite hideous and since i have a number of them would like to make them look better.

Gapping hand laid turnout frogs
I have recently completed track work on my small (2'× 9') switching layout. All track is hand laid and I used fast tracks jigs for the turnouts. My question is this, do I really need to gap both sides of the frog? On of the things that always drew me in with hand laid turnouts was the point rails flowing all the way to the frogs. I just think it looks better that way. Is there a real world practical reason to gap the point rails before the frog?

Sensor for block dectection Part 3
Part #3 looking at setting up blocks.... looking over wireing ideas and what rail would be the best choice for detection.
