How big is my Caboose?

Okay, so... in another discussion, someone had mentioned that the Silver Streak bobber caboose was too big.. out of scale... so I'm curious... is it? Or are the RTR's out of scale.

So I have noticed, since building that Silver Streak Bobber, that it's a bit bigger than my Bachmann bobber. (it's actually a combination of two Silver Streaks... sides, ends, and trucks, and a Ya Ol Huff & Puff... steps, though, from what I can tell, a Ye Ol Huff & Puff is the EXACT SAME MODEL as the Walther's Silver Streak, but slightly different trucks)

Source for Laser Board

Any of you that are using laser cutters know of a source for a product called "laser board?"  I had some buildings custom cut.  This material was used for trim work.  Worked really well.  Think it's about 0.015" thick.

Thanks in advance.

Tank car for fuel oil delivery

What would be good HO tank cars delivery of fuel oil for a customer boiler house for a late 70s/early 80s time period?

Railserve Beverage Bottling Facility, Update #5

It has been a busy few months for me so naturally not too much progress on the layout although more time on the road equates to more time to browse the internet and buy stuff. I picked up a couple Scaletrains.com hoppers for my sugar silo, a few Corn Syrup cars that I have started re-numbering along with weathering and a nice display case for some locomotives that don't get to run on my little shelf layout. It was a perfect fit above my lead extension. I tricked it out with a cheap Lowes Floating Shelf and an LED strip to help with the lighting.

Berlin 1929: Renewal Of The Baseboard

Playing with trains is all well and good, just as long as the benchwork is satisfactory. What I had used from a previous layout was 40mm (1 3/4") foam with a topping of lightly made fibreboard. It worked well enough, but it became clear that the roadbed was not what I required with the thinking of the time - where the turnouts (points) would be operated from underneath.

Proto:48 conversion for Atlas O Trinity 5151 Hopper

Hi, here is a look at my recent project to convert an Atlas O 2-Rail Trinity 5161 covered hopper to Proto:48.   I used the brass couplers and Roller Bearing trucks from Protocraft, along with the conversion bolster designed by Jim Lincoln and 3D printed on Shapeways.   The bolster is very well designed and replaces the factory bolster.  The only thing I modified was to install the Protocraft bolster bearing in place of the pin that comes with the printed part (since the bolster is actually designed to fit the Atlas truck).  The Protocraft truck i

Decoder Identification

A friend of mine has an older HO scale Lifelike Proto 2000 Heritage 0-6-0 steamer.    It has a factory installed DCC sound decoder.

Does anyone know who LifeLike sourced their decoders from for this run.   I took the tender body off, the decoder is encased in purple shrink tubing, no external markings on it.   I used JMRI to attempt to auto detect the decoder, unfortunately it comes up with about 20 potential matches, all older Soundtraxx decoders.   The purple shrink wrap is a sign that it is of Soundtraxx lineage, IMHO.

New layout and Model Railroader

Hey Everybody,

I am not new to the hobby. My Dad and I built a semi-complete layout when I was much younger. However, I now have a house and ample space to build a real layout.

I have a loft that is roughly 10'x25' and I want to use every inch of wall space I can. I am currently planning a shelf design in N scale. I also need a small corner as my office but the rest is for the layout. I'll be posting in the different topics to get ideas during the different stages of the project.
