NCE system is acting strange

Hi everyone,

I have an NCE system that is acting strange. When I plug in the power, without the track connector plugged in, the red light on the power panel is lit. When I plug in the track connector the red light goes out, that means no power the the track. Do I have a track wiring issue or something else??

Thanks! Scott

MRH: We updated your thread title to something more specific about you having a problem in order to increase your chances of getting a response.

Can I power an N scale Just Plug vehicle with the MRC Light Genie without adding a resistor?

I have a few N scale vehicles similar to this:

Can I power them directly using an MRC Light Genie without adding a resistor to the LED in the car?

IAIS's West End - IAIS 9719 - Ex-ATSF ballast hopper kitbash

I've said in previous blog posts that IAIS's MOW fleet includes some real gems that I've been looking forward to modeling, and IAIS 9719 is definitely one of them - an ex-ATSF PS-2 covered hopper converted to an open-top ballast hopper with Morrison-Knudsen ballast discharge gates.  In this post, I'll walk through the kitbash and weathering.

Here are Erik Rasmussen photos of the prototype:

Radiator Grilles

Why do the flared radiator grilles on modern diesels exhaust downward?  I'm sure there is a technical reason, and it's not just done for appearance sake.

Some more photos and work progress

This week I installed a light switch to control the power to a staging track. It works great, so I’ll be getting more the the other tracks.

Chalk cliff waterfalls

Hi! This is an inspirational video I made to attract more people to get started with miniature modeling. Not too many trains in this one, but water has a magic attraction to the general public.

Lights are turning on this weekend

I have invested in some Roomettes interiors with lighting for two buildings. I will start with the apartments as they are close to my just plug controllers. Doing a test on the first four rooms.

Care and Feeding of your Air Eraser

At the beginning of the year, I picked up an Air Eraser to fix up a botched renumbering job after reading comments in another thread.  It worked great at removing the factory lettering on an Athearn Blue Box locomotive using baking soda, until it didn't...

I put it aside until recently when I wanted to remove the lettering from some Walthers Superliner cars.  It worked a bit, then it didn't.  I searched the forum and internet for any helpful tips, and got it to work great, and then it stopped working altogether.
