First Train at Sorethroat on the G&D Sorethroat Branch
Since my last post I have installed the feeder and bus wires for Sorethroat and I also installed the mechanical turnout actuators. What I have still to do is solder in the wire for the polarity of the turnout frogs. Today I was able to run the first train at Sorethroat, which I want to share with you. I hope you enjoy it.

Please show us your Ten-Wheelers and Twelve-Wheelers
This is the sixth entry to the "Please show us" series and will be focusing on non-articulate steamers with a four-wheel lead truck and no trailing truck (excluding the 4-4-0 which we discussed previously). As previously mentioned, this sixth entry to the series will be posted outside of the blog format. It will also determine whether or not I continue the series.

An Unusual Way of Controlling a Model Locomotive
A while back, I came across an Instructable which showed how a stepper motor can be turned into a rotary encoder. Since I had a bunch of stepper motors in my collection harvested from old printers and scanners, I decided to give it a try.

Backed up at the Backdrop
While it's true that layout progress has lagged these past two months due to other projects, another (and maybe even bigger) reason is that I allowed myself to get stuck trying to create the backdrop behind the Wethersfield section of my layout. My problem is essentially that I know too much about the prototype, how it's supposed to look. And I don't have any photos that come anywhere close to that - nor do I have the painting or PhotoShop skills to make them up.
Maybe you can offer some advice that'll help me get past this roadblock.
Dynamic Brake Housing for a Athearn SD 40-2 Blue Box
Hi,
I collect Athearn Blue Box Trains. I have lost a couple of the Dynamic Brake Housings on my SD 40-2's. Can anyone give me a company that still makes these? The Athearn part number is 45038. This is a easy part to come loose and I have managed to loose two of them just transporting them from my house to where my club is. I would appreciate any help you may offer. Thank you very much.

Neon Lights?
Folks,
Wondering if anyone has used LED black lights similar to the ones in the link below, combined with fluorescent type paint, to try to make neon-like signs?
Miller Engineering's animated signs are great - I've already used several - but they of course are limited to what they offer. If someone wanted to make custom business/industry "neon-like" signs, I was thinking of using some individual letters on a framework, painted with fluorescent paint, and illuminated by black lights.
Anyone tried this idea?
