Track Geometry Unit
I recently made this track geometry unit to help me align my N scale code 55 track. I thought other people may be interested in it also as it works very well. I took an N scale truck and glued a nail through the bolster hole using CA glue. I then cut the nail shorter and drilled a hole (part way) in the circular level and made sure it fit on the nail with a snug fit.

What would you do?? (Peninsula in a smaller room or Modular in a larger room)
I was talking with my basement zoning commissioner the other night and potentially have the go ahead to secure 24"ish of right away around the perimeter of the basement. This is both encouraging and frustrating. I recently completed construction of a layout room that is 18' (the width of the basement) by 19'6". I have a two deck plan that is around the walls with a peninsula up the middle. The challenge here is that there is no more that 12' of straight track and curves take up a lot of room.

MRH 120 Day Challenge - Post No. 04 Retention Pond Shoreline Detailing - Completed!
Work continues on the mountain section - specifically the retention pond. It's amazing how much time this is taking! In my last post I had completed the water pour for the pond and here's what it looked like:

CN 0-6-0
after reading the articles on how to scratch build a steam locomotive inspired me to take my first locomotive (a Bachmann 2-6-0(no, not one of the sound ones)) and rebuild it into either a CN e-10 class 2-6-0 or 0-6-0 (unknown class). Both have advantages and disadvantages,
the 2-6-0: for- there is one on display a few blocks from my house so information is easy to aquire. against- would need to find large spoked wheel lead truck and completely rebuild the boiler and valve gear
Proper use of horns and bells
I have attempted to find a book, article DVD or anything on the proper use of the Bells and horns. By proper use I mean the correct toots and clappers that you should hear at crossings, backing up, moving forward and for every thing else. Can someone please direct me to the correct informaion?
Scratch building a steel bridge.
My layout is in the steam period, @1930. 2-6-0 Moguls will be employed. There maybe an occasional ten-wheeler.
Tweaks
PROGRESS UPDATES ON PAGE 2 - 7/15/2012
A quick "tweak" to my Iowa Interstate Grimes Industrial Track layout this week. But first, let me set up the story.
Flower Pots
I read last months artical on making flower pots. I ordered the Noch flowers and went to Micheal 's for the jewelry cones. The flowers were no problem...came from Scenic Express in a few days ,however, Michael's didn't have the cones . What I did find were small necklace fasteners that screw together. When unscrewed the female end is a 1 ft x 1ft flower pot. with the clip removed it has a prototypical hole in the bottom.
Gila Springs & Mesquite Track plans
This is the GS&M track plan for now. I do not have the transition level or the staging yard track plan shown. both not very exciting to look at. We do have Red Mesa Mine and Knot Mine on the transition level as it pass around Noose aka Transition level.
The 2 track Main Helix runs from the stage yard located under the lower level up to La Grange. The Main Helix is used for getting trains in and out of staging and can be back filled with trains during operations. Inner loop is down, outer loop is up.
