N scale progress report
I finally got around to posting a couple progress pictures of my layout. I'm home from college over the summer and decided to finally start on a model railroad.
Basic Info:
N Scale
late 50's PRR
Freelanced
3'x6'
I adapted Rick Van Laar's track plan, found in the Feburary 2011 issue of Model railroader, to N scale. and added a few extra sidings for more switching potential.

Experience with a Bridge from Campbell
Has anyone any personal experience with the 125' double track truss bridge from Cambell Scale Models?
Ideally I'd like to know if it looks like a metal bridge when assembled and painted.
I'm looking for a double track truss bridge, and I've had personal experience with the Walthers. I'd prefer another model if possible (and I haven't ruled out scratch building).
Thanks!

I need help with my ho layout
I need help with my layout design it is hard for me to design and build my layout in my room. I HAVE HO SCALE
..
Dimensions for an Aggregate Hopper
I plan to have a quarry on the layout and want to run Ortner-style aggregate hoppers in sand & gravel service. Ortners are available in HO (my scale) but they're running about $30 a piece! Considering even a modest quarry will produce more than one car of stone in a day's work, I'll need a small fleet and buying even a handful of these will be way out of my budget. After seeing so many amazing scratchbuilt pieces, I've decided to take a crack at it myself and have selected two prototype models to base my model on.

Conrail GP20R
does anyone know of the horsepower rating for Conrail-ex Penn Central-ex New York Central GP20R's?

Playing with Dominos
In order to better understand my capabilities, I am creating a 12' modular mini-layout (chainsaw). I may or may not keep it in the end, so I am building in the ability to expand it from the middle (red line near Oil Dealer) if it turns out well and I end up keeping it. (This expansion would add an additional industry (Feed Mill) and extend the passing siding and yard tracks.
Scale is HO and train length will be limited to eight feet.
Metal studs as joists under the Black Hills in On30
Now that a track plan has been tentatively adopted the issue of benchwork construction is the current dilemma. The goal is to build a T shape 16 x 21 feet. The stem [16] of the T will be centered on an existing open stud wall and be cantilevered 30 inches to either side to allow maximum access and storage below as the train room is also the work shop. The asymmetrical crossbar of the T is 30 inches by 112 on the right side and 140 inches on the left including the top of a teardrop return loop which is 60-72 inches deep at the far end.

The grand quatering discussion
I'm starting a new thread to discuss the importance of quartering steam locomotive drivers, both prototype and model. Pet theories and mechanical realities are welcome to meet and hash out their differences here! I'll post more, but I wanted a quick introduction to get the thread started.
