Any suggestions on a good power pack to control layout lighting?
Hey guys. Was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for a power pack to control only the lighting on my layout. I have been using an MRC tech 4 witch has been fine up till now. When I try too add more lights it goes into overload mode and shuts off. Should i just get an additional pack or is there one out there that will do all the lights by itself? Thanks for any input.
Free-lance, Proto-lance or "Art of" discussion continues. . . model video ?
I can't embed this video, so you'll have to follow the link. (maybe an ad first - sorry).
(Note to rivet counters- this prototype never ran where it claims to have been)
Paper Mill Town for Comments
Another partial plan for discussion. This one focuses on a freelance approach borrowing from locations on BNSF and UP in Oregon and Washington.
Comments welcome.
Manual Point Control
G`day Folks
I have been working on a mechanical point system to go with my railway.
Solved my storage problem –
I live in a two bedroom townhouse – each bedroom has its own bathroom. My layout is in the spare bedroom and having its own bathroom has been convenient for cleaning stuff, etc.

Tichy Train #8208 staircase and landings
Looks like a nice building detail but there are no instructions or pictures of it assembled.
Can someone please share their building with platform and stairs installed?

Using Poly Fiber with Ground Foam for landscape
I did not come up with this idea, but saw it on another model railroader's layout and loved the way it looked. Since Bruce emailed me and asked me what I used to cover the hillside I thought I would share with others in case someone else finds it useful.
I start with some black poly fiber material which you can get from one of MRH's sponsors, Micro-Mark at:
The Upper Spine
The lower deck is built of what I call the backbone of the layout 3 4x1 with plywood sandwiched in between them. The Backbone is the anchor for the peninsula. The spine sits directly above the Backbone.
The Upper spine is a 6" x 10' long section of wood that sits on top of Oak Uprights. Every thing is tied together with Metal - T that will have lag bolts running thought the web of the spine.
HO scale material to use for highway road bed
I am working on my highway and byways for HO scale layout. What materials are being used for the final roadbed ?
I have an old Boys Life from 1958 using 3/16 Upson board, but this is not available anymore.
Any suggestions would be helpful
thanks
new chassis for an old brass Alco S1
I bought an old brass Alco S1- gorgeous paint job, but operationally - not really. Has the old drive shaft connecting the trucks and it decines from there. Since the shell is great I figure the easiest fix is to put it on a neww DCC (or DCCC ready engine and away I go. Has anyone done this and are the any recommendations on the engine to usr? I assume a new S-1 but open to learn from experience. I know the engine may wind up a little taller due to the plastic chassis but I can easily live with that.
All help greatly appreciated
