Building a photo diorama
So I've decided after my failed experiment with central valley ties yesterday that building a simple photo diorama to work on some of the great techniques I've picked up around here before I take them elsewhere on a larger scale. Problem is, I'm admittedly not the most creative when it comes to designing things. How much is too much for one of these? Normal sizes?

Pictures of your ballasted track
I am currently laying the ballast. I was not happy with the results and started to pester Woodland Scenics. Then it occurred to me that maybe my results were comparable to that of others. There is a feature to Easy Model Railroad Inventory that allows me to save pictures on my hard drive and another to save links to videos and pictures on the internet.
So I started going through them, looking only at the track and ballast. Looking at mine from the side it looks great, As did almost all the photos and videos. The ballast looked for the most part level, and smooth,
cylindrical track gauges
Has anyone come across cylindrical track gauges?
I saw these some years ago, but have lost the links to them if they are still being made.
Thanks,

collision avoidance?
I came across an interesting image in a NS video about signals & operations. It looks like it is basically a turnout, but instead of turning onto a siding, you would turn onto empty space! I'm guessing this must be interlocked into the mainline up ahead so that any oncoming traffic would be routed to a derailment rather than a head-on collision. Can anyone confirm this? Might be an interesting thing to model too!
Grain of Wheat bulb hookup
Hello. A question about grain of wheat bulbs. I have a small mining tunnel that would accept a grain of wheat bulb for interior lighting of the tunnel. Never have used these bulbs before; but know they will take a very small current. I want to hook them up to the Accessory terminal of my power pack and use, for the time being, a Atlas slide switch to turn the bulb on and off. I recognize that it would literally be on for just a second or for however long I hold the slide switch down, but that is really for testing purposes.

Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling!
Good day all,
Some of you may have seen this already as it has been posted elsewhere, but I thought that this community his bigger and better :-) so why not repost it and see what kind of feedback I can get! As to not abuse of your patience and time, I won't put everything at the same time.
So... let's start...
Looking for James Powell
Many years ago I was conversing with a chap named James Powell. He was building an HO layout called the Wiscasett,Travino and South Western. We both shared advertising signs etc and ideas. That was about 2003 and since then James sold his layout ,moved into making the coolest pet kennels and then onto theme park set design and manufacture.

My test model from Shapeways has been received
The test model that I ordered from Shapeways arrived yesterday. Note the white object inside the shell, that is a block of foamcore. The walls are so thin that the material flexes, the foamcore is a press-fit and keeps the walls from bowing inward.
