New product announcement - the Signal Tester

We are pleased to announce a new product to our line, the Signal Tester. If you have LED-based signals that you want to test or if you have a signal with unlabeled magnet wire (e.g. BLMA) then this is the product you need! You can also use it to show off one of your signals for simple display purposes. The Signal Tester uses a 9V battery (not included) for power and is simple to use. More information about this product can be found on our website at http://www.logicrailtech.com.

Need a BIG HO smokestack

I'm hoping someone out there can help me.  I need a 2 very large (150' or so) smokestacks for a building on our club layout.  They should be fairly prototypical (tapered) and I can use most any material an make it work, although I would like to keep weight down if possible.  They could be metal, pvc, styrene, faux brick, almost anything.

Any ideas?

Basic Electrics finished for the fiddle yard

I now have the basic electrics worked out and wired up for the fiddle yard.

The plan was to integrate a programming track into the wiring via a switch.

I use copper tape as my main bus which works very well as you can pick up on it very easily. On the odd occasion (not here but you will see it on the main board) you have to cross one tape over another. For this I use some wide shrink wrap (not shrunk). In the photo below, you can see the underneath of the board.

Couplers

Went to Railfest in North Platte this past weekend.  UP had all of their heritage locomotives on display at their diesel repair shop.  Most of these locos are SD70's.  The Katy was my favorite.  I noticed that mounted at the back of each loco were two spare coupler knuckles.  They don't look like an afterthought.  The brackets are designed into the units.

Can someone tell me if these knuckles fail that often?  Also, what happens when they do?

Thanks!

DC sound, NOT DCC sound

I've got several very nice diesels in which I would like to install sound.  I am aware of the MRC 1000 series, which I believe is no longer being offered, except on eBay.  My understanding of how they were produced is that they had a plug that was comprised of about five wires.  Since the module is wireless I don't understand why any more than two wires are necessary, each to pick up power from a shoe going to a wheel on a track.  I have assumed that in order to install one, then, you simply have to snip off the plug and find out which wires take the

Walthers HO 90' Turntable

I have a Walthers HO scale 90' turntable in my stash, still unopened, that I plan to use on my newly started layout.  It is an older version in that it is manually operated (no drive motor).  Walthers still offers the basic drive motor assembly for the turntable and I'm debating whether to pick one up or not.

Backdrops. Photobackdrops

Backdrops. That's the topic that sends chills down my spine. I can have at a loco, turnout or stucture and get away with it, but backdrops? Hmm. Different caper altogether that. I have painted some pr-etty ordinary scenes in the past.

Newest Boxcars

To All: I deleted my previous post on this car. This is now the correct photo of this car. I got the idea for this scheme from an ad in Model Railroader magazine for an N scale boxcar. To get the herald for my version in HO I reduced a picture from a book by 50% and glued it on the car with super glue. I will not weather the car so as to represent a new car from the manufacturer. non-pine trees please

HO scale- I'm extremely close to start scenicing my layout ala SE missouri and while there are some Pines of the long needle variety, mostly I see Elm, Larch, Maple and the like when I go there almost yearly.  I need a way to model some at the front of my layout.  The background bluffs I'm not too concerned about as there are numerous techniques out there (the puff-ball debate continues!).  My fore-ground is an implied small-town scene, and there's gotta be some of these non-pines around the station and water tower (as per my reference photos) and around s
