Perkins spur - or a journey in HO modelling! Update

The brown lines are the height contour (3/4") for the industry in the upper right corner (NE).  On the lower part (S), it's again 3/4" but for the mainline that continues out of the layout to the (S) and (W).

I'll post more tomorrow and thanks Damin for the compliments, this plan was a real pleasure to work on and if I hadn't started building it, I could have modified it over and over and over...  well, you get the picture! :-)

Club Membership and Funds

I am a member of Waynesborough Model Rail Road Club. We are a small club of around 15 members. We have a rather large layout. Some of it dates back to the early 70's, and we are currently in an expansion doubling our size. My question is for other clubs. How do you advertise for lack of a better word, and gain new members? Also a small club trying to expand as you know takes money that we don't have. How do other clubs find donors or money to not only expand and grow, but survive.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated to a struggling older club.

Digitrax simplex/duplex

What is the difference between the Digitrax simplex signal and the Digitrax duplex signal and what are the advantageous and disadvantageous between the two? I have the simplex system, would there be any advantage to switch to the duplex?

Location To Model

Hi Everyone.

After years of wishing I had the room for a model railroad, I have finally gotten a spare bedroom which is 12'10" x 10'6". I think so far I have decided to go with N Scale and DCC power, with an around the walls layout and an island in the middle, also there is a closet in one corner of the room which is 6'3" x 4'8" which i was going to use for staging.

Builder's photo paint?

I know that the British loco builders would commonly paint new locomotives in "works gray," a grayscale version of the eventual paint scheme, because it would show up better in black & white photos.  Does anyone know whether the practice was common in the US as well?

New Industry - What Is It?

How about an experiment in crowdsourcing?  I finished a new industry spur for 8th Sub customer Associated Foods, which was relocated to give the structure a better configuration than my initial design.  Associated received various food products in reefers and boxcars.  To add to the modern (1980~ish) industrial park look of the area, I scratchbuilt a neighbor for it from styrene and Pikestuff parts, inspired by various rail-served customers along the former WP in Reno, NV (EDIT - the model location is in Utah).  It still needs signs, weathering, and Dullcote.
