Scale Model Animation 2 – LEDs and Lighting

Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! In this installment I want to touch on more “points” on lighting and LEDs—likely more than you’ll ever want to know!

Moving from tunnels to rocks - lots and lots of rocks.

Following up the last post, I've added plaster cloth above the tunnels, and started on rockwork nearby.  Lots of photos, again!

New layout build

Wow, I have broken the back of the bench work today. I now have 12 feet of bench work, with back scene (sky) boards, legs with self levellers an all completed. There is still some more work to do to get the legs for the other 2 boards that will give me the final length of 12 feet x 2 feet and the return of 8 feet by 18 inches.

chop nose

heys guys this is my second post to the site i model the lamoille valley a short line in the very north of vermont. the LVRC as it was known hasn't been around since the mid 1990s but it as a interesting railroad. i did a few engine 2 high nose one chop nose and the other two we done by mike macnamara of south jersey workshop  great work he does i just wanted to who else did some custom work of there short lines.

control panel lights

Was wondering if anyone can tell me of a way to wire in panel lights for tortoise switch machines at the panel themselves and not run wires from the switch motors themselves.  Is there anyway to hook in the lights directly to the DPDT switches themselves.  Would be using bi-polor lights on crossovers and regular red and green LED's to show normal and reverse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lesson Learned

After a combat tour in Vietnam, we wrote what are called "after action" reports so that lessons could be passed on for the future. The same is true for model railroading. As the "de-construction" moves forward (or should I say backward), there are some notable lessons to both be learned and passed along to the next generation. Here are some of my observations:

ME Turnouts with Atlas Flex Track

Are there any issues I should be concerned about when using ME turnouts and Atlas Flex Track?  Will I be able to use my Atlas joiners without issue?  I usually use Atlas turnouts, but I can't wait forever for Atlas to get on the ball.

Thanks for any help.
