Update on BNML Layout Progress

Here is an update on my progress on the BNML. Morris to St Jean...

This diagram shows the area covered in this update.

I've made lots of progress since my last update. Got the big curve in and all of the track up to the south end of St. Jean.

On30 Chopper Couplers?

I'm curious, does anybody make a chopper coupler suitable for On30?  Ideally, I would like them to fit in a Kadee #5 box, or at least to be a straight drop-in replacement for a #5 or similar.  Is anybody else interested in them?

These are the couplers I'm talking about:

Supertrain 2014

Curious to see who will be going to Supertrain 2014 in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) April 12-13

I am not sure yet if we will go, however looks like there will be lots of layout and manufacturer .

Wonder if Rapido will have their new F40H-2-D

A Traditional English cottage after drawings made in 1939

After the kind reception I received for my engine shed interior and related scenes, herewith I include pictures of a row of typical farm workers cottages. They are built from drawings made by a John Ahern in 1939, his family still hold he copyrights and have given me permission to reproduce them here.

Made from cardboard and paper, there is nothing 'bought-in' save downloaded texture papers from Scalescenes.

Locomotive tune up tips how to video.

My first attempt at a "How To" video demonstrating my technique for polishing the stock Athearn wheels.

Also, I will show you how to add extra electrical pickups for better pick up!

Algoma & Wolff Creek Railroad

Hello!

I just wanted to introduce my actual plan to build my small H0 layout.

The basement room (i probably will share with the drum set of my son) is only 12,45' x 9,18' big. I decided to base my plan on the pattern of the "Heart of Georgia" layout plan. The smallest radius used is a little bit under 24". the tightest turnouts are #5. Beside 5 custom turnouts #6 all other turnouts are hand laid and already made and ready for lay down. All curves are made with easements.

What makes a model railroad GREAT?

What specific or general elements make a model railroad GREAT? In the same respect, what makes a model railroad NOT SO GREAT?

A couple recent posts started by JoeF got me thinking about these things... I'll start by listing my thoughts on the subject, starting from the ground up. I am by no means a master modeler or anywhere close. These are observations I have made over the past 25 years (off and on) of model railroading, based on layouts I have seen in person or print. These are things that ANY modeler can achieve without much skill or talent (both of which could describe me).

Power source for home made jump throttle

I'm going to assemble a home made jump throttle.  Some good (simple) plans are available.  They all call for 9 or 12 DC volts. My question is, will an unregulated wall wart work?  If so, I think I would go with a 9 volt model as these tend to put out higher voltage than advertised.  Would a switching wall wart be better?  I would not think a high amp rating would be needed.

Thanks!

Peco Electrofrog HO Turnouts in staging

I am concidering using Peco electrofrog turnouts in my staging yards.

Curved code 75 in an open staging yard and medium code 100 in a more or less hidden staging. Elswhere I am using different brands of code 70 and code 83 turnouts and track.

I want to hear about your experience with said turnouts. Not so much regarding the electricity issues, as I am well aware of that I have do tune them up to make them function well with DCC.

I want to hear about how these Peco turnouts function with US rolling stock.
