BNSF in Winnipeg via the BNML again today (2014-02-12)

Looks like this could be a regular occurrence for now...

This train was sitting just south of Winnipeg today waiting to enter the city. Very similar makeup to the last one I saw. Mostly Grain. When I left the city this evening, it was sitting on the CN main just south of the Forks over the Pembina HWY.

Lights on Athearn RTR GP40

I recently purchased a pair of Athearn RTR GP40's to run in consist on my Oregon Pass RR. I also purchased a pair of Tsunami TSU-AT1000 digital sound decoders. It seams that there are no sound decoders that will directly plug into the Athearn engine. HINT!

How I hid a drain pipe

This is what I ended up with.

Tips For Beginners

OLD DOG; NEW TRICKS. i've been in model railroading for most of my 69 years but have really been active for the last five or so. I was at a train show recently, purchasing coupler conversion kits and interiors for passenger cars, and complained to the dealer that some of them rode rough or derailed at times over switch frogs and other areas.

"Have you tuned the wheels on the cars," I was asked. "Sure," was my reply; "I just put new steel wheels on all of them."

Model Railroading on a Budget - one man's junk is another man's treasure

Tyco - the name screams cheap to many. But there is treasure in those garage sale and flea market finds.

Recently I was given a box full of Tyco HO rolling stock for free. To most serious modelers the response to this is probably Yecchh!

But in looking through the box I found that there is gold in old rolling stock, especially for those of us on a fixed budget for modeling.

What can be done with these old cars? Here is a list of things I have found to do with them so far.

Model Railroading on a Budget - getting down to brass tracks

I was going through some of my boxes the other day and came across a box of brass HO track in Code 100. Not much I can do with this I originally thought, but then it hit me, it may not be useful for running trains but it can have many other uses in model railroading. Here is a list of thoughts to get started.

The Prototype Illinois Central Gulf St Louis District. circa 1979

This is where I'll put the proto info I will be using.

Starting the Basement Rebuild

Here's the old workshop area.....wall is down, layout will go over the workbench(after it is lowered 3 feet or so)   Will be starting a new blog area on layout design as well.

Input needed on new layout design

I've been redesigning a planned layout to keep things on a single level.
