Feeder Wire Gauge 20 or 22?
I'm starting to lay track on my first layout. I'm wondering which gauge wire to use as feeder drops from the rails,
# 20 or 22? I am modeling in HO scale
Thanks Mark

An interesting German Railway Relic
Hey all, been a bit since I've posted stuff, but I wanted to show you guys this little guy. My mom was visiting Germany this past week, and when she returned home, of course there was also an additional cardboard box with souvenirs and gifts for the family. Among my things was something specifically tuned to my railroad interests. An old battery operated railroad lantern from the Deutche-Bahn. After getting it open, I found a ancient corroded 2.5 gold lead-acid battery. How fun!!!

Rapido's Railcrew HO switch machines - any comments from those who have used them?
Hi, I am planning a new layout in HOn3 and am thinking about track and switches. I was intrigued by Rapido's RailCrew switch machines with integral operating switch stands, and such a machine would be perfect for surface install. I plan to use a 4" base of extruded polystyrene foam extensively on my new layout, so below the table mounting is out...I plan to have a flat surface on the bottom of my modules.
I am curious if any of you have experience with these, and could share your comments...

Monday, Day 2, Daylight Express 2015 NMRA National Convention
Day 2 started early for me - I was down at 6:00am to finish off those last 3 Win10 upgrades. We ran into a few technical issues, such as the aforementioned PowerPoint size issue (PowerPoint Mobile also appreciates an Internet connection....). There was also one clinician that had a laptop where he had to pop the back cover and reseat the hard drive before it would boot...
But the Contest Room opened today, so I've been wandering over there every so often:
I am looking for a Thalis motor and his gear system made by MEHANO
Athearn diesel locomotive handrails - What to do?
I have an Athearn RTR SW1500, and its handrails are pretty flimsy. I've seen other folks complain about Athearn loco handrails, too.
Athearn has another loco coming out soon (a GP40-2) that I'd like to have, but I'm sure it will have the same handrail issues.
Has anyone out there replaced the handrails on Athearn locos? If so, with what did you replace them, and how did it work out?
Thanks!

Are Opera Window Center Beam Cars still in service?
A question for the group...
Are Opera Window style Center Beam Flats still in service after 2012?
I have not seen any for quite some time.
I have a few of these cars in my collection and I'm trying to decide if I should keep them.

grain haulers
What kind of car was used to haul grain in the late 50s and early 60s?

Sunday, Day 1, Daylight Express 2015 NMRA National Convention.
Welcome to my blog of the 2015 NMRA National Convention, the "Portland Daylight Express"
Sunday is actually Day 2 for me, as I am the Clinic AV volunteer for the convention, and we spent yesterday setting up computers and projectors for the clinics. The Pacific Northwest Region graciously gave us a budget to buy new computers, so we have six nice lightweight HP "Stream Notebooks" - admittedly not powerhouses, but capable of running PowerPoint and Adobe Reader, which is all they should be used for.
