I have a Thalis train made by MEHANO and I'm looking for the motor and the gear system because I want to install it in the back unit of the train. Anyone has one for sale ?
Mehano parts tend to be interchangeable for the most part. New motors are minted the same as older ones and the drive lines are usually common. You see these same parts in units they made for others and some China built units. So a pix of the current powered unit and the one your trying to power would be helpful.
I've done what your wanting to do, and the easiest thing is to just buy a powered unit on ebay and just replace the dummy's shell onto the powered unit you buy and off you go. You can probably use a TGV Duplex, TGV Atlantique, or one of the other similar bases and it will fit the Thalys just fine. I can't remember if the Thalys has a silver chassis or if that's red too. Either way, shouldn't be a hard paint job if needed. The trucks can be easily masked off, or the side frames removed.
Here's an ESU installation with the keep alive and some nickles added for extra weight.
And here is another one with a Kato motor prior to decoder install. These frames came from different sets and were totally interchangable with the shells.

Thank you very much for the info. That's the solution I will be looking at.
