Apparently I didn't get the Memo

Must have missed the memo about the "sound board" effect of 2 in Styrofoam being much more noticeable than that of 1/2 in plywood - especially with the track laid directly on the foam.

Although I don't find it particularly objectionable, it is readily apparent when the train leaves the part of the layout with plywood subroadbed and moves onto the Styrofoam section. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to attenuate this effect short of tearing up the track and relaying it on cork roadbed on top of the foam?

If not, I guess I can live with it.

Decal sheets: which ones work best?

Looking at adding some decals to a crane I want to purchase. Going with the Santa Fe line for the "Palomar Glass train" I want to build. Any recommendations of which decals work best? looking for something like this:

I can get the cars unpainted on sale. Who makes these Santa Fe decals and font I guess? Woodland Scenics?

which decals to stay away from?

Recommendations?

Thanks.

CMT Pointe St Charles Caboose

As many of you probably know, the CMT Pointe St Charles Caboose Van project ground to a halt some time ago, but was supposedly picked up by TrueLine Trains in co-operation with Rapido.

Since communication about the project status has been poor at best, I have made a point of checking on on the status on the TLT website every once in a while.

Sadly it looks like this will never happen now.

What is your signature train?

I was talking with a gentleman in my club last week.  He talked about the concept of each member has a "signature train".  The definition of a signature train, is that train that you are known for within your group.

His examples were his own coal car train, Randy's MOW train, and my train.

So, what is my signature train?  Well, >>>>>spoiler alert<<<<<< my signature train graces the cover of the July 2013 MRH magazine, so tease, you get to see it Monday.

Model Torque - Australia

I came across this type of drive on a British model railroad web site and did some searching. Any of you Aussie guys familiar with this company. http://www.modeltorque.com.au/ I see that the main company is a Mobile Telephone Co. and that Graham Rooke was the "inventor" of this type of drive. Unfortunately he passed away last Dec. and the company has gone quiet.

Shockwave Flash may be busy

or it may have stopped responding...

No kidding.  Am I the only one who gets this message on a regular basis while my computer goes off on a lengthy coffee break?

I'm getting this message on two laptops, one of which is admittedly a bit resource-constrained.  The other is less so (and sees the annoying message less often), but it's getting rather frustrating.

Electro or Custom?

Back from Switzerland and want to order track for delivery on my return from San Francisco trip on the 10th. It was a really great honeymoon and included trains! Some pics to follow.
