Trackwork

Laying Rail in my Helix, hints/suggestions
I'm finally ready to lay some track in my helix structure, ....Atlas CODE 100 flex track.
Looking for a few hints/suggestions.
I'll be attaching the Atlas track to my reinforced and painted/weather-proofed masonite roadbed. It will be a double radius installation of 32" & 29".
Naturally I will be starting at the lowest level, and working my way upward so as to have the best/clear access to the tracks. Probably be able to do a full half circle at a each shot.

Re-railers, any problems & can there be too many
Can there be TOO MANY rerailers on a layout plan?
I'm not talking about those obviously overt ones that are just plainly not needed, but rather extra ones to help assure no lengthy derails not being caught.
Are there negatives associated with the Atlas re-railers??....CODE 100

Hand laid track joining question
I'm planning on using hand laid code 83 track for my new HO layout. After reading a bunch I'm confused. I intend to create a lot of blocks and handmade turnouts.
I understand soldering curved rails before bending keeps them curving consistently. Do I need to use rail joiners to solder on curves and do I need plastic joiners for blocks or can I just gap and maintain smooth joints? I like the proto87 style of gluing to tie plates but may just use micro spikes and some contact adhesive to attach to ties.
Are Shinohara 3-Way Switches DCC Compatible?
I just picked up a NCE PowerCab this past weekend to be able to use and start testing DCC equipped locos (one of them being a Rapido Turbo train so I'd like to get a longer run.) that I've got in my roster.
On my current DC layout, I've got a N scale Shinohara 3-Way switch with all 3 diverging tracks (6 rails) being isolated from the 3-Way switch. Power is fed to the switch via rail joiners on the main.
Am I going to run into any shorting issues with the way it is currently wired for use with DCC?

Elk Grove Village IL - Rail Service
Thought some might be interested in the rail layout here in Elk Grove Village. This is the home of the nation's largest industrial park and it is serviced by CP Rail/Soo from the Bensenville Yard, former Milwaukee Rd. It is interesting to note that only one runaround is available in this complex! Primary cars spotted here seem to be tank cars! This industrial park owes part of its value to its location next to O'Hare Airport.

Colorado Front Range Railroad - Update March 2019 "5 years of building the layout"
March 2019 update and April 30 will mark 5 years of building the layout... So what is new and a look back at some photos from over the 5 years. Also My dad came for a visit and has some questions about the layout.
Hope you enjoy the video and Happy Modeling.

Painting roadbed and track
I model in N scale, and for better or worse (OK, it's what I have an ample supply of) most of my track will be Atlas code 80 flextrack laid on cork roadbed. I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on painting it?

Staging Yard Ideas
I’ve been struggling with fitting staging and a return loop in a small area so thought I’d throw this out for everyone’s comments or ideas.
What have you done? What would you do?

Building a Proto-Freelance 0 scale switching layout: "Vernon, California"
Hi all,
Let me introduce myself; Ronald, born in the Netherlands Europe, 54, married to Wanda with 2 kids (24 and 27) and 1 granddaughter of 7 who lives with us. I'm a modeller as long as I remember, trains where always part of my life. My father started with Fleischmann H0 which later went to me. I expanded with European stuff like Roco and somewhere end of the nineties the American bug really bite me. '98 I bought my first 2 US Atlas H0 locos and from that point on I was hooked to American trains.
