Motorised Bridge finally tested and operating

I have finally completed the operational part of my road bridge and have been testing and tweaking it for 3 months and I'm happy with how it is working. This completes one of my laps around the room. So now I can plan my next project but with the quite chuff of a train in the background rolling by.

Rail Paint

Hi everyone,

I just finished building some code 70 switches with un weathered Micro Engineering NS rail. I need to paint them, what type/color of paint should I use? And the best way too apply it?

Best, Scott

Glue Atlas Track to Alum Roadbed (plastic to metal)

I'm building my 'connection bridges' between my indoor layout to my exterior helix structure with aluminum channels. I need to glue the atlas track to the aluminum surface of those channels.

I have 2 situations:
a) direct attachment of the atlas plastic ties to the alum surface (no room for any type of roadbed under track)

b) some 'bridges' will allow clearance for a roadbed. I've considered a 1/8 cork, ...but having some doubts about its moisture absorbing possibility?

Looking for Max Shim Thickness for Peco 100 Guard Rails

I bring this up as an individual subject as I am sure there are LOTS of Peco Code 100 turnout users out there. And there are likely LOTS of those users that have experienced some derailing problems in some situations

There is a relatively simple modification that will improve their performance. It involves the guard rail 'slot' across from the frog area. I'm almost surprised that Peco themselves have not offered some sort of 'fix kit'

Using PECO Turnouts with ME Flextrack ?

I was wondering whether to use ME code 83 flextrack and turnouts or switch to PECO. I asked for input in another post and decided to stay with ME, since I already had quite a bit of ME flextrack and some #6 turnouts. I'm still in the layout planning stage, intending to build a multi-level HO layout, running NCE DCC. Now based on input from Joe Fugate I've recently learned that I will need #8 turnouts in some places to support my CA Zephyr 85' Budd cars so they don't look like toy trains as they go through the turnouts. ME doesn't make #8 turnouts.

Old Atlas N-scale switches

I have just put together a test loop using Atlas code 80 flex track and old switches from the 70's. The newer finer contour wheel sets are not that happy with those switches (#6 and #4). Somewhere, someone, has to have tuned these old things for the newer better wheels and posted a walk through. Anyone know where I could find it?

Static shocks

On our club layout at times we get a lot of static shocks from touching the track the UP5 when plugging in the controller even off eachother. Not sure what the problem is, could it be our digitrax system , our flooring (interlocking rubber matting) which we have run wires to a good earth. All to no availe. Last Sunday we had our bimonthly operating session when you kept hearing loud cracks and someone going yow!  I am looking for ideas on what we could do to try to stop it.

Thanks in advance Neil

Best Ballast Quest

Looking for detailed prototype ballast, I found Legacy Ballast from DCC Concepts in the UK. I was planning to have some Woodland "fine" grey blend, as the medium I had was too large for HO.

Has anyone used Legacy Ballast and how did you fine it.?
