Trackwork
JMRI
Hi.
Found your site when I was researching track automation, specifically JMRI.
Have just started reading the article from Oct last year and already it has answered questions I had.
Seems to be very clear and detailed. Looking forward to completing the series.
Your magazine is excellent. I subscribe to a British magazine, but feel that yours is superior.

Helix, Staging Deck & Return Loop - Complete Run...
Today I finished off the wiring for the entire Staging Deck area, including the two Return Loops.

Nothing is ever easy (hand laid track and turnout controllers)
One thing I've discovered building my layout is that learning new skills is never easy.
NMRA Standards gage
What are the differences among the HO NMRA Standards gage for their Mark IV, Mark IVb and Mark V. Is it primarily the clearances for the period modeling (Early/Transition/Modern). Which would be best for the 70's/80's?

Making Turnouts DCC "Friendly"
Over the years I've seen bits of information about making turnouts more DCC "friendly." Unfortunately I didn't keep an index of those articles. Any help identifying those information sources would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Changing an existing layout
I am going to be converting my n-scale layout from DC to DCC. In the process of re-doing the electrical wiring, I am also going to be removing track and changing the track plan. My hope is to be able to save a good portion of the existing layout.
Any tips or thought on how to remove ballasted track without destroying everything? The ballast was glued with either diluted Elmer's white glue, or WS Scenic cement.
Switch stand targets
I use the Caboose Industries 204S switch stands on my S scale layout. They have plenty of throw for S scale and look decent when weathered. I don't like the plastic targets that come with them and have to be glued to their wire staff so I make new targets from thin brass sheet and .028 brass wire. I made a simple jig to hold the pieces while soldering them. The brass wire is nice as it will bend if hit and lessen the strain on the plastic stand.

Helix Derailments, rare or common?
I just finished building my helix structure that features cantilevered 'roadbed shelfs/tracks'.
