Plan for Intermodal Yard -Trenton Subdivision in N Scale
After a few days of "trial and error" I have decided on a final design for the Intermodal Yard on my layout, The Trenton Subdivision in N scale.
I decided to keep to the basics to create a modest intermodal area capable of both container and trailer operations without taking over the entire layout. I used AnyRail 6 to design the schematic.
manual uncoupling
Hello! This may be something someone may have already encountered. I have never used magnetic uncoupling ramps before. So, I bought a 2-pack. Placed them loosely on the track. Ran a Bachmann GP7 sound equipped loco over it and the loco grabbed the magnet and dragged it along. ?? I have never seen nor heard of this. What is the K.I.S.S.? If I glue the magnet down, will that slow the loco down when traveling over it? Or is there a better solution? The GP7 has the speaker in the fuel tank, right above the rails. Starting an Intermodal Yard on my Trenton Subdivision in N Scale
Comments/suggestions wanted. Taking advantage of some "free" time over the holidays, I have roughed in the area that I planned for an Intermodal Yard on my layout. I have several trailer units that I have custom built with various Canadian transport companies. I take a photo of the prototype, then crop out everything except the trailer side.
Spline roadbed vs other methods
I have become enamored with the flowing look of track built on spline roadbed. While I model in On30, the track gauge is the same as HO, it does require longer ties and more center to center spacing. With that in mind I lowered a section of my bench work about 4” below where the other, plywood, roadbed is already in place to allow a few more riders and some room for scenery below the track level.
Terminals for Tortoise
I found these terminals that I can use on my Tortoise machines. Digikey part # ED2637-nd Manufactor's part # OSTTE040161. Less than $2 with quantity buying.

Modeling old track that makes small trains roll and rock back and forth
Hello all, has anyone tried to model old short lines or branch lines with bad trackwork? With dips and rises when laying the track (handlaid). Now I am not talking a huge deal, say .010 to .015 inch with small shims staggered about. Have seen some lines on YouTube that were really bad, but looked really cool watching the small train rocking and swaying back and forth. Just spit balling here guys. Thoughts God Bless Ya Dave

What's on your workbench? December 2019
Welcome to December! Thanks to all who shared their November work.
Let's see your recent modeling progress! We learn something new when your latest work is shared.

N-scale Peco Turnout issue
N-scale. Using Peco live frog turnouts, Peco switch machines, and the add-on (PL-13 Accessory switch) that does frog current switching automatically. Testing on bench was all good. Then after being put in layout, would not work. Apparently, the bottom current switcher, PL-13, was causing binding.
