Resistance soldering equipment - recommendations wanted

This week I've seen 2 or 3 discussions that bring up resistance soldering...  so, having been interested in upping my game, I want to ask those experienced modelers out there...

What equipment would be a minimum to get satisfactory results in this hobby...   realizing I will likely do rail-weight assembly, oat the heaviest.  (I have a wire-weight handrail project to start with.)

Building a trestle

I had enough working on electrical and switched gears to my big trestle. A few commercially built bents, some of my own, basswood, balsa wood, glue, imagination a few days and the scene is coming to life.

Feeder Placement?

Hi all,

I'm considering soldering my track feeders to the bottom of my track. I will be soldering on the workbench and taking the track to the layout for installation, is there any opinions or issues about using the base of the rail for the feeder placement?

Thanks,

Anthony

Staging Deck Installation has begun...

Today I started the installation of the staging deck for the layout.  It will have six (6) tracks for storage, one arrival departure track, and a return loop.

The plan below shows the location of the deck, the tracks and return loop.  It also shows the connection between the helix and staging.

Unique turnout - buildable?

As I continue to research the Frank Jones Brewing Company for my N scale layout, I noticed this extremely interesting turnout.  I doubt I will find a commercial turnout like this, and I do not have the skills to create my own turnout that does this.  My current track plan excludes it and doesn't bother with the right hand of the two tracks that head down the page.  But if I had such a turnout, it adds more switching for a smaller industry across Albany St from the brewery.

Sanity check... layout construction next step?

Dear friends,

I'm in a need of a sanity check...or maybe just a few more pairs of eyes to point out some glaring obvious thing I forgot to do.

I believe I've reached a milestone - fully completed roadbed for my Staging deck. The plywood is secured, the cork is glued and painted. Next step would be to start laying track down, or is that the next step?

Have I forgotten something minute (or major), a "side quest" I have to fulfill before the gang crews are unleashed onto the sea of brown?

Custom Fabricated Turnouts

I know about Fasttrax, and I had heard of this Proto 87 . But when I went looking thru the Proto 87 website, and watched their video, I got confused. Today I saw a posting by Joe Baker that may just offer a clearer explanation. I hope he can teach me (us) something.

HO Track gap's, how wide is too wide?

As the title says, how wide of a gap will cause issues with operation?  In laying flex track, in some places I have cut it a tad to short and ended up with larger gaps than I would like.  So before I decide to replace it,  I would like to pull from the vast experience here.  Note that I don't mind the clickity clack as it adds to the realism.

Curved Turnouts, (was Shinohara Curved Turnout, 24/22)

NOTE: I changed the title of this subject thread just recently as it has expanded into discussions of a number of different aspects of curved turnouts,...and brands.

Has anyone else seen, or had (have), Shinohara curved turnouts with 24" outer radius and 22" inner radius,...code 100??

I have one right hand one that appears to be that size. I laid a Ribbonrail 24" gauge in the outer curve, and it sure fits well.

I have a potential use for a couple of these,...one left, one right at the moment.

Derelict Trackage and the Infamous Mud Pit

Recently on WPF I was asked how I made the mud pit on my derelict track, so I'll use this thread to show what I did.
