Trackwork
I'm Running Trains thru my Wye !!
I have a Wye Junction on My layout which resulted in the dreaded section of track with opposite current which requires a couple of dpdt switches or an auto reverse module.
My Girlfriend bought Me an MRC Auto Reverse Module for My upcoming Birthday {Dec 24th} but She let Me have it today. What a Lady! Guess I'll keep Her around!!

chip dust for ballast?
Has anyone had any experience in using chip dust for ballast???
I am curious as it seems to be available at most gravel yards for fairly decent prices
Also, anyone know of a supplier of small quantities of coal?
thanks in advance,
ez-track help
Ok, earlier I made a post about using ez-track or flex track. I received a lot of great feed back... thanks again. So today I decided to use the ez-track, that I have on hand, and set it up under the Christmas tree for my grandson so he can have some fun before i start the formal bench top lay-out.
Modeling 50s trackwork
Time and again I continue to see photo after photo of brand new continuous welded rail in pre 70s model railroading. If you just scenic the photo side of the rail with rail joint bars every 39 ft. it really picks up the realism of the scene. It surely does nothing to sell the scene when it's 1951 and all rail is welded rail. The Santa Fe line running along I-25 in Northern NM. is perfect for setting the scene. Jointed rail and semaphore signals. See it now or miss the last of 1900s railroading.
Desert Grande Part 4 Backdrop
So At first I was considering not having a backdrop of any sort and just playing on this real-estate of mine.
I then got to thinking and realized a backdrop is the best protection for the wall surface!! And it will look better, too...
Minimun and best Curve Radius on N scale
What should be minimun radius of curve for a N scale layout?
and should be the best? let say a middle point between space and not to look too much as toy train?
Cork or easy track?
My grandson is fascinated with trains. I want to build a layout for him in our guest room. It will be 8" x 4' area. I have been gathering information and parts, materials rolling stock etc. I have a mixed bag of easy track and reg track with no roadbed attached. I want this to be a permanent installation and need to decide which track to concentrate on getting. All of the track has been accumulated by winning actions on other things on ebay.
Free-moN: At Home and On The Road
As it seems my Free-moN modules have now become my "home layout", thought I'd start a new thread featuring the whole kit-n-keboodle rather than individual modules.
'Twas a busy weekend: on Saturday I set up all my modules in my garage to 1) troubleshoot, 2) see it if fit in my garage (a "California Basement") and 3) run trains!
Only took about a kabillion hours to get everything going, but once it did...!
