Designing Open Grid Sub Road Curves Bed Using 1 X 3 Lumber
I am currently designing a section of benchwork that requires open grid design, I need to design a 36” radius curve. A club member informed me that an article out of an old issue of Railroad Model Craftsman magazine outlined all the angles used to create curves using pieces of 1 X 3 lumber. Basically cutting a series of trapezoids with different angles and mending them together. All of this as an alternative to cutting curves out of plywood with a saber saw. Has anyone ever heard of this article?
Small/Micro Track Plans
Without getting into the pros and cons of Facebook. There is a group I follow closely called Micro/Small Model RR Layouts. https://www.facebook.com/groups/728920213839816/
One of the frequent contributors does up track plans on a regular basis and has some great ideas for small spaces. He's produced two free PDF books of his designs and they are available on the group. Excellent designs with 3D renderings so you get a good look at what they'll look like built.
Railroading Books - Real and Model
Michael T. had a post about the Scenery book of his youth and the new found copy. I got to thinking about my books and thought I'd share them. I added the covers to Imgur and was going to share them, but thought it would be a major task with 174 of them! Instead, here is a single graphic with the thumbnails!
Accessing Layout Center with a Chair
I am having trouble with my swing bridge I use to access the center of my layout holding a consistent height. I suspect this has to do with the varying humidity more then anything else.
So I am considering raising my layout by about a foot and then using a desk chair to roll from the outside to the inside. It would be high enough so I wouldn't have to duck. I would put a couple of those plastic floor mats down that have spikes on one side to hold them in place on carpet.
