Benchwork - Roadbed
Turnout controls?
Is there a way to secure caboose hobbies ground throws to insulation foam on layout? Would I have to cut out squares and glue in softwood to screw in throws?
Installing Tortoise on the top of the benchwork?
Hi everyone,
I am about to make some revisions on my trackplan and this involves having a couple of turnouts leading to spurs/sidings off the mainline, placed on areas where installation of the tortoises is not possible below the benchwork. Is there a preferred/recommended way of installing the tortoises on the top? I can figure out scenic ways to disguise the motors themselves using structures.
Manns Creek Narrow Gauge in On3
Welcome to my first entry for what will be the blog on my new Manns Creek Railway in On3. I started build in On30 a little more than 10 years ago as a diversion from working in HO scale. At the time I had built a fictional railroad in HO scale called the Roanoke and Southern, which was featured in the May 2010 issue of MR. by the time my article was published is was firmly hooked on O scale narrow gauge. Although if first started constructing models in On30 (O scale models with 30" track gauge) I soon widened the gauge out to On3 (O scale models w
ICG Benchwork Progress
I have spent some time over the past couple weeks working on my benchwork.
There will be a long peninsula wall in the middle of the room. The layout will be double decked in this area with the lower level track height being 39” and upper level 59”. In the rest of the room the layout will be one level and track height is going to be probably 48” – 50” (not 100% sure yet).
Sheet cork for roadbed
On my past layout, i was given a roll of sheet cork for free. So I used that cork for my roadbed. I created a couple jigs so I could cut out the appropriate width for roadbed, and in yard/industrial areas I used that cork on top of a plywood base.

The Mud Bay & Western #6 - The Upper Lighting Valance
Now that the upper deck is fastened down, we can proceed with upper lighting valance and the fascia on the front of the upper deck.

The Mud Bay & Western #5 - Fastening Down the Upper Deck
The previous post saw us roughing in the skyboards and backdrop support. This had to be done before the benchwork was fastened down because in some areas the benchwork (door slabs) are what hold the lower edge of the skyboard to the wall. Now that the skyboards are in, we can begin fastening down the door slabs.

Nailing hardboard backdrops and Fascia in place?
Hello all,
I'm curious to know whether anyone had any experience with nailing their masonite hardboard backdrops and front fascia in place with something like a nailgun? I'm thinking of using 1/8 hardboard and the idea of using nails secured with a nail gun is appealing as it would be a real time saver and would offer a nice, finished look. Im curious though if the hardboard would hold the nail or if it would just fire right through. Also curious how well it would hold around rounded corners.
Any thoughts?
