Locos - Rolling stock (general)
Engine Lubrication (and track cleaning), via ATF
I saw this posing on another forum, and thought it might be interesting to get viewpoints on this forum,...
Order of diesel work (inside/outside)
I'm reviewing the order I'm doing my diesel work in. I have some diesels that are factory painted and will have some additional details added, some weathering, proper couplers, and DCC/Sound/Lights.
Should I get the electrical work out of the way first and then tackle the detail/weathering work? It seems when I have a completed model (like an older one I've done with details/paint/weathering) and then added DCC, some of the details get clobbered and need to be fixed.
I'm wondering if I should get the inside done first and then the outside.
Natural Gas Fuel Tender
I just ran out for a few errands here in St Augustine FL, and got stopped by a train. It had two FEC locos on the front and a 'fuel tender' between the two. At first I thought it might be some sort of diresel fuel tank mounted on a container car chassi.
But when I came home and looked it up I found this,..
Fantasy Paint Schemes for Locos & Rolling Stock
B&O loco fantasy paint scheme paint job.
Looking thru some of my inventory the other day, and ran across this unfinished project/idea. It originated when I saw an 'unusual' paint scheme that actually appeared on some B&O passenger cars. At first I wanted to know if the passenger cars actually appeared in those colors ?
Never thought I could fall in love with a commuter train :D
Well, This German S-bahn commuter will shortly be transformed into something very Swedish.. BUT! It will hurt my heart to remodel this beauty... A tutorial is coming up later for the transform..
Accurail Boxcar kit
After a wonderful day at local train, I decided to retire to the basement and survey my recent acquisitions. I got a hit for a 3 stall roundhouse and a 3 stall add on. I put it away and decided to look for 2 Accurail boxcar kits I bought last year. Looking quickly lead to prepping the parts. A dry fit of parts quickly turned into a completed car. It honestly felt like cheating when you look at how long I have been working on the F&C car. OK it has been on and off work, but still, the Accurail is done and the F&C is still in progre
Oscar and Piker
YES! I finally got them!
An Oscar and Piker! (eBay finds)
The Oscar is half built, which is fine (though the interior colours have grown on me, the exterior I'll have to change)
The Piker is still in all of it's original plastic... WOW that's a lot of little bits of wood pieces!
My first ever "Craftsman" kits... I'll probably finish the Oscar first, seeing how it's half way finished, it will give me some clues on how best to build the Piker.
Diesel Locomotive Wishlist
Is anybody else tired of the same locomotives being released over and over by different companies? The SD40-2 has been done at least a million times. I give Scale Trains credit for upping the ante for everyone but can't we have some other diesels? What diesel do you wish would have a high detail release or a first release.
High-Hood GP20s in GN and BN are very scarce or overpriced and would be at the top of my wishlist.
I can't recall any articles/videos focusing narrowly on paint touch-up techniques
I've spent many interesting and useful hours viewing videos and reading posts/articles/pdfs about painting (rolling stock and locomotives particularly) but I cannot recall ever coming across anything that focused primarily on repairing minor scratches/dings our models (particularly the ones we actually operate) can accumulate. I have a few items that could use a bit of patch work but I'm not really prepared to strip them down to the bare shell/brass unless boxed into a corner. Some of what I have was purchased painted by the factory so I have no idea what brand
