Experience With Ambroid Snow Plow Kit?
Anyone have experience with the Ambroid HO scale snow plow kit. I have built the Ye Olde Huff and Puff transfer caboose kit so this will not be my first one but wanted to see if anyone had photosor any tips on surprises that came up while working on it. I am fairly certain all parts are accounted for too.
Thanks
TIDX Tank Car
To All: Tidal Refining Company (TIDX) had a fleet of tank cars. This company was a manufacturer of motor oils and grease. I used an Athearn 40 tank car and Protoscale decals for the project. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout.

On30 3D Printed Freight Car - PLA vs HIPS heat exposure
A promising Start
I have been experimenting with printing a On30 flat car on my home 3D Printer. This is a small simple FDM printer, nothing fancy. Like many beginners I have been using PLA filament. Its is very easy to print with and a very forgiving for 3D printing. My first pass at the car had made it to the spray booth and was looking very promising. However, the model would never make it to the layout.
The images and discussion of what happened follows in the first comment, below.
Modifying HO Atlas Ballast Hoppers
Back about 15 years, Atlas introduced models of Hart ballast hoppers in HO. I got all excited and bought a bunch. My enthusiasm waned when I read postings on Yahoo's Steam Era Freight Car group (STMFC) describing design and manufacturing flaws that detracted from the appearance of the model.
Let there be Primer!
I have finally gotten around to priming some of my long abuilding resin freight cars. Some have been "finished" for a decade or more in some cases. Work, moves, family commitments and the like had these projects put into boxes to be painted "later".
It is now later and I spent the past couple of evenings gassing myself with Tamiya spray primer in my garage. Definitely do not spray this stuff in a poorly ventilated space. You'll see pink elephants and dragons if you do.
Great Northern Simplified Patch and Paint Match
Hi everyone,
I am doing a BN patch job with renumbering on a GN Athearn RTR GP-35. It is similar to the one below. My question is what is a good match for the GN simplified green? It always looked more brown to me but I do have some red/green colorblindness. Is there a color out there? Do I have to mix my own? I do not have an airbrush and was looking to see if anyone had experience here on doing color matched patches. By the way, the color does not have to be perfectly matched, considering 5 years of heavy use and the fact that it is a patch job.
Weighting and Superweighting Rolling Stock
Someone today referenced me to this issue of MRH in reference to a TOMA award for a seaport design.
As I was going thru the mag this article on weighting and super weighting of rolling stock I found very interesting
