Build a Model Railroad in 10 Minutes a Day

This year I’ve decided to devote 10 minutes a day to working on model railroading. My first post was on FaceBook Live so not sure how to share that here but the next three are online there as well as on YouTube.

Prototype Photographs 2021

Hi All,

Went to see some trains today with my camera.  Found a couple scenes that you might enjoy looking at.

In the spirit of the holidays I'd like to share them with You.

Hope the ensuing year is Happy, Healthful and Prosperous for you.

I’m looking forward to see and enjoy your prototype photos too again this year.

I truly enjoyed the last couple years photos.  Thanks!

Nick

Shipping sugar - a request of the hive mind

Okay, I've got a liquid beverage bottler (it's a Pepsi bottler) on my layout. They get corn syrup via tank car. I know they are getting sugar too, because they bottle Real Sugar Pepsi there. I suspect it's by truck.

On my layout I want it to be by rail.

Era is somewhere between 2005-2010-ish.

What cars would be appropriate for hauling sugar in such a situation?

graphite

been looking at sources for graphite, some have a dry molly lube in them.

would this help to keep it in the plastic cup areas built into the side frames for the point of the axle to ride in? does not look like a price cut to buy even a pound of the stuff. (like who would need that much in a life time?).

My On30 Bachmann Porter jumps out of gear. Suggestions?

My early Bachmann On30 Porter jumps out of gear easily.  The gear box is covered so I can't add a styrophene or brass  strap of any kind..  It runs great until that happens. Any suggestions?

Sometimes things go wrong and trying to fix it makes things worse.

Locomotives painted in the MMID paint scheme are few and far between and I'll need 3-4 for an operations session.  I've already got Atlas GP38 painted for 300 and 301 so this MMID 300 needed to be renumbered for something between 302 and 305.  I posted a question on the discussion forum about removing the number and got a number of useful responses.  I decided to use a Solvaset soaked piece of tissue paper over the right zero and then rubbing it with a softened toothpick.  It didn't work.

Any information on this train?

Good Morning folks, my Grandson is totally into model trains of all kinds. Or as he recently said, "When I was younger I was into trains, but now that I'm older I'm into all forms of transportation." Anyway, for his 5th birthday last week a friend of the family gave him a model train he had been given in his youth. He said it was old when he got it those many years ago. He has no idea what brand it is or if it even works. His said he has seen it run, though. He says it is steam powered and used a bunsen burner of some sort.
