Tichy Reefer Part 5

This update covers Brake Rigging on the under frame.
First up, Tichy provides a template to cut .010 wire for the brake lines. The wire is provided in the kit.

They have you cut the wire between the two bends in order to fit it through the fish belly frames. Looking at the clearance, you might be able to work it through without cutting. I’ll have to try it on the next kit.

USRA Freight Car Assignments resource

Years ago I bought a copy of the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society’s “Railroad History, No. 128,” Spring 1973 issue, that contains James E. Lane’s historic summary of USRA freight cars. The USRA freight cars have been noted in many hobby articles over the years. Some have featured prototype photos and references to Lane's 1973 article. But these are mostly out of print and often touch on only a portion of the USRA freight cars.

Northampton & Bath Boxcar

Northampton & Bath Boxcar

To All: The Northampton & Bath RR was a 6.8 Pennsylvania short line built in 1904 to serve the cement industry. By 1979 this traffic had disappeared so the line was abandoned. The line is now a Rails to Trails facility. The car is used on my layout to serve a cement plant. I assembled, detailed, painted and lettered this craftsman car kit. Photo by Elvin Howland. Tichy Reefer Part 4

Yesterday while the frame was drying, I worked on the basic Car Body assembly.

First ends are cemented in place, and then a small angled piece in order to keep it square with roof. This actually went together better than I thought it would.

Close up of angle support.

Question on Bowser engine

I have an older Bowser Alco C628, on the PC board there is a dip switch. There is no mention on it in the paper work and Bowser has not responded to my email does anyone know what it is for?

Double quadrupled the fleet

One box delivered. 16 freight cars for the fleet. Two nice 8-car bundles from one seller on E-Bay. $88. That comes out to $5.50 per car including shipping. I am very pleased with that. All had knuckle couplers. But all wheels will have to be replaced. All cars wil have to be weighted heavy. And of course weathered.

Tichy Reefer Part 3

Well this morning spent some time on the underframe assembly.

First installed the Fishbellys in place. You can't put these on the wrong sides as one has two slots to fit in and the other has one. When you do this, you need to make sure the detail is facing out so they're not backwards.

Then put together the Body Bolster halves.

Here are some photos of my model Railroadz layouts in Trainz 12. One of them is a small oval while the other is more of a work in progress but NG.
