As the Table Turns

Some months ago I submitted this post attached to another very old thread.
I am working on to recreate the 70 foot turntable used by the Southern Pacific at Port Costa, California.

Using Grout to Accent Ballast

Used charcoal colored grout to give the secondary track ballast the grungy worn down look of secondary trackage.

Steel cables and barbed wire

Hello fellow modelers,

I am also into tabletop games and recently came across some stuff to enhance the bases of the figures.

I got me some barbed wire with a diameter of 1mm and a steel cable also 1mm.

Compared to the stuff you can buy in the modelrailroad hobby supply, these are cheaper by up to 60%. There are also grass tufts, static grass and nearly every scenery material you can imagine. All from companies not known in the modelrailroad hobby, but well known for tabletop gamers.

Water

Folks,

I've built several layouts over the years, and have used Envirotex Lite to simulate (still) water.  As most of us know, it has a tendency to creep up the edges and sides of the water body (harbor, lake, stream, etc).

My question is for those of you that have used products "Magic Water" and "Realistic Water" - do they also tend to creep similar to the Envirotex product?  Any other product that you might recommend?

Thanks,

Al Carter

sticky water

Sticky Water - About 2 weeks ago I poured Envirotex light for a river and pond. To date I still have several sticky to the touch area's. I believe I mixed it accordingly, and some area's are rock hard and fine.

Can I do another pour over the sticky area's with another product in hopes of hardening those area's..???

Thanks in advance

Working with foliage

Foliage is the key to realistic landscape modeling in any scale. I´m in this video sharing some of my best application methods, both for bushes and trees, as well as composition and 3D perspective aspects.

Make weathering wash from dishwasher rinse aid

It worked for me - I hope others try it and report if it works for them.  I would have used artists' wetting agent, I only had rinse aid on hand.

In brief, I made a 0.02% thinning solution of dishwasher rinse aid in tap water

UPDATED: Team track infrastructure choices

Hi all,

I am considering adding a team track to my layout, having some empty space between the mainline and the aisle on a specific module (9" x 3' approximately).
