Freight house diorama

Haven't posted here in a very long time, haven't done any modeling in a very long time. I'm slowly getting those modeling juices flowing again. I finished up a little diorama over the past weekend using the Monster Modelworks Freight House Flat kit.

Zip Texturing Issues

I have Joe's videos, read the article in the September 2010 issue and read the blogs related to zip texturing.  I'm using Richeson Powdered Tempera Paint from Dick Blick and Plaster of Paris for the mix.  The formulas are exactly from Joe's video.  The shell is painted with a 50% mixture of latex paint.  But I'm having an issue with the zip texturing bonding to the shell.

I know better but...

I'm not new to modeling. I have built several craftsman kits out of wood. I have read numerous books and articles on modeling with wood. A piece of wood should be stained BEFORE gluing in order to prevent excess glue from getting in the way of the stain penetrating the wood. This isn't new information folks. Yet me, being an I don't know what, have glued together 2 walls using board by board construction and where the joints are, I can see where small amounts of glue have seeped out and the stain won't stain in those places.

Old Building Restoration?

This is the first building kit I ever assembled. We're going back about 30 Years. I dug..this old stone building out of a box in my parents basement. I can't remember who built the kit, maybe someone can enlighten me. It was available at any hobby shop back in the day. I never thought there was use for it, but maybe there is.

My first module - Painting castings - The fun begins

This is a reminder of where I am heading towards.

Now that the plaster castings are in place I could start painting, the fun part.

Bending Structural Styrene Channels

I'm getting ready to bend some .060" styrene channel. I'm looking for a 45 degree bend. I've watched a few videos on using various heat sources to make the bend but all have dealt with rod or sheets and not structural shapes. I'm worried about losing the shape itself. For example, I have some C-beams and the bend will be towards the sides forming the C. I could free bend it. Some people use a small metal rod to bend it over and with the warm styrene, I don't want  the rod to crush the sides forming the C.

Any suggestions? Thanks.
