On my Bench

Hi everyone,

Im new to the MRH. Have been reading for a long time but never posted. I thought its time i contribute to the community. My layout is in a different state at the time being. Can't with until its transported here in 5 weeks. In the mean time ive been keeping busy at my workbench.

Anyway i hope people find my modeling interesting as im considering writing an article or two fro MRH in the future.

I finished this truck up yesterday. Its from wheelworks parts.

Flour Mill Kitbash

I took a break from paper mill work this weekend to finish an old kitbash I started 20 some years ago. I used 2 Red Wing Milling kits to create a 23 inch long building designed to sit against the backdrop on a layout. I just never had one with the space to use this stinker until the Idaho Belt came along.

Open For Business

Got the lot paved, and finally get to set out a few of the vehicles and containers I've been accumulating (mostly by being at a show, and forgetting I've already got a box full of the same sort of thing at home):

3/4 cup Elmer's Glueall (PVA glue)

2 tablespoons linseed oil

1 cup pre-mixed topping compound

1 roll tp

How to model screen mesh.

Our club is planning on building a model of Canadian Pacific's SS Minto paddle wheeler. The boat had a fine mesh screen around the upper deck to keep stuff from going overboard. Does any one have a suggestion for modeling this material. See the photo.

Windows and Doors for Scratchbuilt Structures

I am looking to scratchbuild some structures for my layout (HO) and need to know where the best place is to get doors and windows for these structures. A couple of the structures I will be working on will be a small fire department, a motel and a few small town businesses.

Thanks in advance

Using Taskboard & Taskboard to scratchbuild bridge vs kitbashing with CV/ME Parts

I don't have the specific prototype bridges chosen yet.  Much will depend on the what the prototypes did from the late 1800s to early 1910's for bridge construction in the Northeast.  I am protofreelancing, and much of the backstory I have created has my railroad acquire certain right of ways in eastern PA instead of the B&LE, Erie, and Pennsy.  So I am looking at many of their types of bridges, and will extrapolate my own.  What I wish I had in all these books on modeling Bridges is an actual book on prototype bridges in the sense did each railroad have a pa

Ideas for roads on a layout

Hi, I need some advice on roads. I will have one main road and 2-3 side roads. I would like feedback on roads from kits versus building your own and materials to use.

Thanks
