Recent Build Progress FSM JAcobs Fuel Co.

Have recently been working on FSM Jacobs fuel co again. It is an interesting old kit that can be had at a decent price and builds a demanding structure.

Still a long way off completion but wanted to share some recent progress shots.

An Alco Models Brass S1 - ReMotor / Re Build

Many many moons ago I modeled the New Haven in N scale.at some point i stumbled across an Alco models Brass Ho S1. Not knowing anything at the time about cheap brass I jumped at it. Well cracks in the truck gearboxes and rough tower gearing ect made it a shelf model.

While at a show a while back i picked up an Atlas S2 for another project but I thought the trucks may fit under the Brass s1 Frame. Shore enough they did and were but require some spacer washer to gain some clearance for the truck swing.

Frenchman River Model Works Tug Boat

While not something I intended for my layout I got this kit years ago out of curiosity more then anything.

It has been sitting on the shelf in half built state for a few years so i decided to finish it up.

Tichy 50 Ton Flat Car ProtoTypes

I'm just finishing off a bulk pack of tichy 40' 50 ton flat car kits that will be heading to the paint shop in coming weeks.

I planned to decal these for the major western prototypes such as SP&S, SP, GN and the like but having trouble  finding prototype images of the cars.

Can anyone out there help provide some accurate prototype photos of 50 ton flatcars that the tichy kits may reflect closely?

Or even if your able to confirm what roads i should be looking at....

Mainline to the front or rear of the layout.

I'm contemplating this track arrangement the past few days. At present the single track main is to the front of the layout as it heads through Hillwood.

The yard has been somewhat simplified with only a single run around and 2 yard tracks and the industry track at the rear how ever the original is shown below.

Another 1930's 10' x 20' Loggin Short Line Pan

Some may have noticed i have posted a few various track plans over the last 6 months attempting to fill my 10' x 20' room. My original plan was to tackle the Northern Pacific Yacolt Branch. After many different plans and attempts I decided to scrap it, I just couldn't make it fit the space without 3 decks and a peninsula.

(I will continue on the next post)

Hand Laid Track Tie Jigs

Since I have recently been getting ready for my layout and to begin bench work I still have some design ideas i want to tackle and find a solution to sped up hand laying track.

Northen Pacific Yacolt Branch - Another Revised Plan

Another revision of my upper deck of the Yacolt Branch. Enables continuous run and 3 track staging of logging equipment inside the helix to the bottom deck.

Min radius mainline radius is 24"  with no.5 turnouts.
Min radius is the lead after log dump and mill yard.

Y sections is on lift out to alow turning of locomotives when required.

Interested in peoples thoughts and comments on the plan

Looking for a Steam Powered Rock Crusher for the Yacolt Branch

This evening I posted a a new blog topic on the county owned rock crusher that generated traffic for various locations on the Yacolt Branch and Clark County.

I found an image this evening showing the rock crusher owned by Clark County and im looking for models that can be used as a starting to model this in HO.

Making progress on the Sawmill Roof

In my last blog post i shared some pictures of my mill project.

After some inspiration i sat down this evening to tackle the next section of trusses.  Im trying to get various roof angles and things for this project. the middle section i want the roof a little higher to allow better viewing from the layout edge.

I had made up the very first section as a skilion roof and then made the first truss of the next section.

The issue i come across in my planing is the height of the verticle on the left in the photo.
