Layout design

Elkhart and Grand Rapids Railroad (EGRX) (2017-5-5)

While waiting for some detail parts for my O scale project I pulled some old HO scale yard modules from storage. I decided to use these modules on a continuous run HO Scale layout with a few switching opportunities.

Looking for Feed back on shelf depth for a layout around the walls, is 12 inches too narrow? Any one out there have any photos of how much a guy can get into 12 a inche deep shelf?...debating 14 inch as well..

I appreciate any feed back or advice based on your experiences...

New layout

Many years ago as a teenager I built Linn Wescotts HO railroad that grows. I later redid this layout in n scale on the same 4'8 table. As time went on I moved and was unable to continue in the hobby until recently. I am now in the initial planning stages for a new layout. It will be in HO scale and I have settled on plan #79 Frisco Lines from the book 101 track plans for model railroaders. I have not quite decided on an era yet, but I'm kind of leaning towards the 50s as I want to run a big boy on the layout.

Bad electrical contacts happen to real trains too

Looks like getting good electrical contact can be a problem in real railroads as well. Here in the North Bay, we are anticipating the beginning of commuter rail service on the new Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) system. It looks like the service will not meet the "late 2016" launch date due to malfunctioning signals. Why?

Here is a quote from The Argus Courrier:

"In SMART’s case, the problem is thought to be related to the cars not making proper contact with the rails, Rabbitt said.

Layout space/room: 14’4” by 8’8” rectangular room with a 3’2” entranceway in lower left corner.

I blame my conversion to O scale 2 rail on eBay, Atlas and my friend, Jack Keene.

Milwaukee Road - Planning a Layout

This posting is to describe some of the useful web resources that I have used to plan my shelf layout that is based on Milwaukee Road trackage in southern Minnesota.  My planned layout is based on Milwaukee Road trackage from Jackson Minnesota to Pipestone Minnesota.

Walters NSC well car (3-unit)

I bought a 3 pack of these cars, but there is no drawbar to connect the 3 cars together. Are they supposed to come with one or do I have to get it separately?

There is a coupler on 1 end of 2 of the cars, that's it.
