Looking for layout design advice
Have a common room available for a potential layout and I'm looking for advice.
Room size is 3 meters wide by 4.7 meters long but only about half length is available. Thus available for layout is approximately 3 X 2.4 (10' X 8'). North wall has a small window high up (not a problem), west wall has a window after 2.4m (8'), east wall has a door after 2.1m (7') opening outwards. South is open space in common room.

Limon Layout, Let the Foam begin.
Well here's the second installment, laying out the base foam.
I started by cutting the large sheets down to cover the two main sides and used the left over bit for the middle.
I used an electric carving knife, and it worked great with nice smooth edges. This actually an old upholstery trick for cutting foam cushions.
Cornhill and Atherton - Lower Deck part 1 (Staging)
As the first part of the lower deck I have decided to build "bottom up" and install the staging first. This is double ended and the yard sits under the town of Glanton (itself under the town of Atherton). Staging feeds Cornhill (under Mortimer) at either end therefore forming a loop all round the room and also the link between the C&A and all points East and West on the Antioch and Southern railroad.
N scaled used on HO distant perspective
I'm going to add a distant picnic scene on a hilltop and would like to have a couple of stationary cars nearby. I'm going to run HO on my layout but would like to get the perspective of a distant rail line on a hill side. Distance to the HO tracks would be approximately 12" - 20" away on this hillside. I don't want it to look like it's too far away but not too close. I'm thinking of N scale on the hill side. Z maybe a little too far in the distance.
Anyone else ever used this perspective before? Suggestions?
Thanks.
The building of Limon layout.
Well my desktop computer is backup and running and I haven't posted anything in a while because of it. But I've been busy building my first meduim size layout.
I've based my benchwork on a design by Iain Rice from his book "Small, Smart & Practical Track Plans". I'll modify the track layout and scenery to fit my skill level and needs.
Here's a scan of the project.
