Union Station Engine Facility Completion - Step by Step
Even though the ATSF Paradigm Division is still in the plywood prairie style of scenery, it is now, with the completion of the Union Station Engine Facility, 100% functionally complete and operational in DCC. The first video is done in a slide format and shows the general step-by-step construction & completion of the engine facility in three phases over a two month time period (June thru August 2016). Areas of emphasis have been annotated on the individual slides and/or have additional information provided before each section of the video.
Removable end sections for a shelf layout?
Hey all. I've been away from the hobby for a few years, slowly been getting back into things, and planning a small shelf layout to give myself something to work on.
Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout
Introduction:
The Wetterau Food Services Micro Layout was completed in February of 2016. Layout planning and construction began in 2014. I am currently enjoying operations on the layout, and wanted to share the steps I followed in building this micro layout here on MRH. I have learned quite a bit in building it, and hope you will find it informative.

Adding wire to telephone poles?
I am modeling my first N scale layout and am wondering if I should run wires for my telephone poles. It seems to me I see lots of photos and videos where there are no wires, just poles. Is the detail so unnoticeable that it doesn't matter? I'm sure it's a matter of taste but I would love to know others thoughts.
Which forum covers layout room lighting?
Which forum covers lighting?
I had a place on my chain saw that needed some lighting. Most of the layout is lit with 48" T12 w/1 4000k and 1 6500k tube in each fixture. I like the look of the light and plan to use this scheme to light up the "Big One".
I took the plunge and decided to try the PDC Mike Rose led boards.
Two reasons:
1. space constraints. There was not enough room for another 48" T12 fixture.
Port Deposit and the Low Grade
Hello all, I just joined this forum because my long term plans for my dream layout would be blasphemy on my current forum. I love N-scale, and I will keep modeling it, and always appreciate it. The modeling community is also great at nscale.net, and I will always be over there with our 160. But after numerous discussions and research, my plans are better in HO scale.

My name is Charlie and I'm a lurker!
I've been lurking in the background on this site for four plus years, absorbing all the knowledge that my humble brain could digest. Often times rereading posts over and over again. While I have been devouring the knowledge presented here , I have been designing my dream layout using Any Rail Software.
I have had experience with 3rd Plan It and found it to aggravating to deal with. Granted the version I was using was from the '90s, I found it to be difficult to use.
Penn Lake 8 - Research Can be a Bad Thing, evolving cement operations.
Sometimes too much research is a bad thing. After acquiring a copy of Trackside Around the Pennsylvania Cement District, I now feel the need to redesign the cement mill portion of my layout for increased operation. Oh well, at least nothing's actually built yet, so there's no loss. But looking over things, I may need to increase my covered hopper fleet.
My original design only included outbound loads. Further investigation revealed inbound loads of additives to react with the limestone, as well as, coal to fuel the kilns.
