On order
All track and turnouts are on order. Some is already at the house some is on its way and the turntable is on order for when it becomes available (expected later this month). Since I have nothing from my previous layout to reuse I'm having to buy everything but that's ok. Really the only thing that I would re use besides rolling stock is the old tech 2 transformer I had, and since I want DCC that wouldn't be used either. I ordered a Digitrax Zephyr xtra starter set and a digitrax pr3xtra usb programmer so that I can hook a computer up.
Yard module
I have the initial design for the yard module which will be the one module that will be permanent.
Thoughts?
Toma
After giving my layout a lot of thought, (in my job I have ample time to over-think anything) I have decided that the best thing to do will be toma. I have also decided that I will model in N scale using ntrak standards. I have therefore thrown out the idea of using the plan I was considering and instead just letting the layout grow. One of the biggest problems I was having was narrowing down what to model. I decided that with ntrak modules I can simply build a module of whatever I have the fancy to model at the time.
Initial idea for track plan
Here's kind of what I'm thinking about for a track plan. the single track on the right side of the layout is just there for reference at this point there will likely be crossings sidings etc. My thought is that side would go through some canyon with perhaps a river. Also I'm thinking of doing double main line with cross over tracks.
New layout
Many years ago as a teenager I built Linn Wescotts HO railroad that grows. I later redid this layout in n scale on the same 4'8 table. As time went on I moved and was unable to continue in the hobby until recently. I am now in the initial planning stages for a new layout. It will be in HO scale and I have settled on plan #79 Frisco Lines from the book 101 track plans for model railroaders. I have not quite decided on an era yet, but I'm kind of leaning towards the 50s as I want to run a big boy on the layout.
